Brooks Beast 95 vs 96

Categories: saucony running

Question:

I have been running in the Brooks beast ‘95 – I’m a heavy runner withe an overpronation problem.  When I tried on the ‘96 it felt stiff and heavy.  I’m in Marathon recovery so my mialage is low now but I need to get back in soon.  Any sources for the’95 or sugestions for other shoes?

Response:

I’ve had the exact same experience.  Try Roadrunner Sports – 1-800-662-8896. The last catalog I received from them had both 95 and 96 Brooks Beast.

I switched to Brooks Beast ‘96 from Saucony Vang’s and found they were very stiff in the sole.  So stiff that I have developed Achilles Tendonitis.  The "roll" off the toe (sorry, don’t know the technical term) is practically non-existent in the Beast, so the tendon is stretch a bit more just before push off.  I also found that the stillness of the impact was pretty jarring. I made the mistake of buying a pair of Beast’s this year. I misread the ad thinking that they were runners who had a heavy stride. Being 135 pounds, the shoes weigh almost as much as I do. They are the only runnning shoes I know of that I have to swing forward with effort to propel myself down the road. I have no one to blame but myself. I just need to slow down while reading shoe ads. I now use them "walking" shoes. God, they are BIG!
