Categories: running track

Question:

I believe that you are located in MA … You can also check out some of the local running clubs.  They have track teams and coaches that are usually free for members. Merrimack Valley Striders – http://www.mvstriders.com/ You can do a search from yahoo.com in the following category: http://dir.yahoo.com/Recreation/Sports/Running/Clubs_and_Teams/ Mass "my HS coach won a PAN AM metal" Runner :I did a scan of this newsgroup and did not find a message related to my :question. So if this has been discussed in detail, please point me in the :right direction…and forgive me! : :My daughter (16 years old) runs for her high school and is doing wonderful! :She runs the 4X200, 4X100, 600meter, 400meter and sometimes the 55 meter. :She is setting state records in the 600 and 400. She is also nationally :ranked (I haven’t seen the rankings, but she was ranked 3rd in New England :for the 600meter). : :Anyway, (enough boasting!) my question is around training. The coach she :currently has doesn’t do enough to prepare her for state and national meets. :He is not a runner himself — he played football in HS. I am thinking about :finding a personal trainer for my daughter, in addition to her activities :with the HS team. I believe she’s got to be involved with the high school as :well. : :D oes anyone know where to start looking for this sort of a trainer? Or for :that matter — any pieces of advice for us as parents or for my kid the :runner? Personally, my sports in HS were hockey & some soccer. : :Thanks for any insight! : :Steve : : :

I might start with talking to some of the coaches who are at the community college or college level in your area.  Also see if there are some Track and Field Coaches. USAT & USAT&F Coach  http://www.enduranet.com  and ask him for the best way of approaching looking for a coach for running track. — In health and on the run, Ozzie Gontang Maintainer – rec.running FAQ Director, San Diego Marathon Clinic, est. 1975 Mindful Running:   http://www.mindfulness.com
