HELP ME!!!
Question:
It gets a lot more expensive if the family does it and is really into it, believe me. The $100 for the half marathon the other day, $50 for most races, shoes, $20 a pop for USATF memberships (the kids have to have them if they want to compete in USATF track meets and CC meets)
My last race in July was $150 plus some extra post race meals meals which took it optionally over $200. The add $600 for two rooms for three nights and this is only one race. My choice for all this a bit more than $320 a year. Hey, its cheaper than rehab and counseling.

Oh, baloney. Nobody’s forcing people to spend megabucks on running stuff, and I don’t think most runners actually do. Lesee… I own shoes, good running socks, a heart rate monitor, a jacket, some shirts and shorts, tights, and windpants. The HRM is admittedly excessive. Of these, I perhaps buy a shirt and shorts or two a year, four pairs of shoes, and the occasional thing of bodyglide. That’s about $320/year, somewhere around $1/hour.

Most of that is in the shoes, and I consider that an unavoidable expense. Who’s stealing from who? Running’s attraction is largely that it’s free, anyone can do it, and we only compete against ourselves. Unless you go to pccoach.com where they will try to convince you to pay up to $300 for their training programme and another $300 for a watch that gives your heart rate.
So … don’t buy their software or their watch. What’s the problem? It’s called voting with your wallet. If their stuff is useless, then they’ll go out of business eventually. Even with a fool born every minute, eventually people will clue in. Lots of cash when training schedules and advice are free all over the net. People on this newsgroup willingly give their time and experience for free.
So why bother buying a book? Why read Daniels, Coe, or Lydiard? a) Because they know what they’re talking about b) Because the information is concentrated in one spot where it’s easily accessible and well presented c) Because you don’t have to filter through the horrible advice and troll-ridden garbage on r.r. d) All of the above and more Why support pccoach.com demanding money for old rope?
I don’t know. Why not ask Gimpy why he’s so desperate to steal it? Perhaps it offers something he finds valuable. Heroes like Gianpy are reclaiming running from the capitalists. Forward!
