what do women wear?

Categories: running shorts

Question:

Hi Erin, I just pull a pair of shorts on over my suit.  I’m more comfortable running and biking that way.  It doesn’t take very long in the transition area.  No one usually starts laughing until they see how slow I am on the bike! Have fun, Nancy – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – I’m a 28 yr old female, I’m training to do a sprint in late June.  1/4m swim, 7m bike, 3m run.  I’ve looked at every photo I could find to see what women are wearing.  It seems like a racing swimsuit would be the most practical for the whole thing, but the idea of riding a bike with my suit also riding up my hiney is a little frightening.  It seems silly to pull on shorts during such a short race, but would people laugh at me if I did? I’m not the type to ask ‘why does the pull buoy around my neck hurts so much,’ so please don’t send me "what a stupid question" replies, I’m likely not to know the difference. Muchas Gracias Erin Gallagher Havana FL

Erin— Go ahead and pull on a pair of lycra running shorts at the swim-to-bike transition.  You’ll be glad you did!  If you can find a good triathlon swim/racing suit, it’ll have a bit of padding in the crotch which’ll help on the bike and won’t drive you crazy on the run.  Some women have no problem wearing just their suit for the entire race; I’m not one of them (yet…).  However, the next real sprint race I do, I’m going to try it. I think I can stand the chafing for a short event, and it will save a little time in the transition.  Anyway, the number one rule of racing tris is, "Do whatever is most comfortable for you!"  Or wait, is that number two, after "Have fun!"? Anyway, do both! Cheers– Tricia — "’Be a terrific innovation if you could get your mind to stretch a little further than the next wise crack."
