Any rub pains out there???
Question:
I don’t know if I’m the only one with this problem or not…
I have been an avid runner on and off for years. Last year at this time I was a running enthusiast. I’d estimate I was running anywhere from 40 and 60 kilometers per wk… snip this problem… This problem got so bad last year that I quit running…gained 40 pounds…and started smoking. I’ve since quit smoking and started running again but I’m trying to avoid this crotch burn from returning. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Wow, I’ve had this problem too, but it didn’t cause me that much trouble. Glad you didn’t turn to a life of crime.
It is usually worse in the spring and fall when I don’t sweat sufficiently to provide lubrication. At those times, I use vaseline or a product called <I think Chafe ez or something like that. It is not as heavy as vaseline and doesn’t stain clothes. Good luck.

I have some experience with this problem and maybe can help. The type of shorts you wear can contribute to the problem, for example cotton is more apt to cause more of a problem than nylon or nylon/polyester. Also, lather up good with vasoline and this will give you a barrier and cut down on friction; also works well under arms and on nipples. Good luck and let me know how you make out. Phil

They cover the problematic area of the thighs and inhibit rubbing. Try using petroleum jelly on the affected areas. I find that on really humid days when I sweat profusely and on long runs. The jelly hels the skin stay supple. The bike shorts are a good idea but the shape of my gluteus maximus may not be henhanced! — Jacques J. Therrien

I bought some real running shorts (with liner) made from some space age material or another (nylon? titanium alloy?). Anyway, the stuff drys quickly and so doesn’t get water-logged like cotton. Haven’t had chaffing problems since switching. Putting vasoline on your trouble spots before and after you run will probably also work, but this would create some messy shorts. Marlon

I wear lycra spandex shorts. I too had a problem with chafing, but the spandex shorts put an end to that. If you like, you can wear other shorts over top of them for some "modesty." I just wear a big T-shirt to cover my ample behind! Stacey *8 Stacey Ritz (entering) 3rd Year Hons. Biology (Phil) McMaster University Hamilton, ON

I find a little vaseline works wonders. It’s thick enough that it doesn’t
wear off right away. It lubricates my thighs enough so that I can run enough miles to take the fat off; after a few weeks I don’t need it any more.
Have you ever tried regular baby oil Rick? I’m just wondering, because that is what I use and it seems to work well. I also no longer need it after a few weeks. Maybe I’ll give your idea a try since I’ve taken the last two months off from running and can easily tell.. – michael

I was wondering if anyone has any advice on what to wear or any creams or lotions that could be used to avoid this problem… I’ve had the problem, especially when I’ve started running after a hiatus where I’ve gained weight.
