Washing running shoes

Categories: running shoes

Question:

Hi all,         I have a pair of Nike Air Structure Triax’s that are getting quite dirty, and I was wondering if washing the shoes in a washer is detrimental to the quality of the shoes, such as effecting the cushioning?  Also, are certain cleaners or detergents better for this, or are to be avoided.                                         Thanks for all responses,                                         Tim Kaufmann — * Timothy W. yo take my advice… 1. if it is new and it stinks , go sun it 2. if it is old and don’t stink and dirty , try cleaning it with water and sun it 3. if it is old and stinks like mine …get a new one, trust me less people will complain

Dirt shouldn’t affect the shoes performance.  I just got a new pair the other day, and during the long run yesterday, everybody kept steering ME to the mud and water puddles to cut down on the glare from my new shoes (;-) Nobody ever said a runner’s feet – clad or unclad – were pretty. Gary

Response:

I definitely wouldn’t wash them, they usually shrink as a result and

never get quite as comfortable as they were prewash ever again. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Hi all,       I have a pair of Nike Air Structure Triax’s that are getting quite dirty, and I was wondering if washing the shoes in a washer is detrimental to the quality of the shoes, such as effecting the cushioning?   Also, are certain cleaners or detergents better for this, or are to be avoided.                                       Thanks for all responses,                                       Tim Kaufmann —

Response:

I’ve washed mine 1 or 2 times during their running life using ordinary detergent in COLD water. It never seems to be detrimental but I’ve read that it is.
