SELL ME YOUR J-STATION
Question:
I forgot about the AKG 240, the studio standard for what, 20-30 years?
Yeah, I guess, but there’s no such animal as the K-240 these days. There’s the K-240M and the K-249DF, with about a hundred dollars difference in street price between the two. I don’t know which one most closely resembles the venerable K-240, but I’d suspect the more expensive K-240DF I bought. We’ll see, I guess. My ears are not really up to any big audiophile discrimination tests, but the price difference between some so-so headphones and the long brother deal I cut for the K-240DFs ($109, delivered, about $70 under the next best netprice I could find) was so small, I figured I’d got for the better phones. I can get nearly that price for them used on EBay. They should be here by Wednesday or so, so I guess I’ll see how they work out then. –Part_Boundary-2F67CDB–

Thanks for the clarification on the name. ( I’m sticking with the Lesser Balsac.) Yeah, I forgot about the AKG 240, the studio standard for what, 20-30 years? The Sennheisser 770s are also 600ohm, so they won’t blow your ears out on most headphone amps. I wear ear plugs in the recording studio, under the headphones sometimes, but I don’t bring my 770s. I use the house headphones..sometimes the AKG 240s, but more usually any one of various brands of low impedance headphones that get really loud. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – As for # 3. Sony makes the best fairly cheap headphones, the MDR series, but I splurged on a pair of Beyer Dynamic 770s, because they are very secure fitting and comfortable, in addition to being excellent sonically. I bagged a set of AKG K-240DFs, which are pretty standard broadcast headphones…though in my own on-air days, if you wanted decent headphones you brought your own and kept a steady eye on them until your shift was over. Anything normally in the studio that was any good went out the door like it had legs and running shoes. I ordered the K-240DFs for $109, delivered, which I think is as cheap as you’re going to find them anywhere. My only reservation is that they’re not hi-isolation closed cups, plus they are in fact 600-ohm devices, contrary to their specs, and require a lot of grunt to drive, accordingly. I hope the J-Station is up to it. just in case the Great Balsac is a protected and registered trademark of Carson Entertainment, or something like that. That was "Karnak" – Balzac was a French novelist. (Pulled that right out of the Hellman’s mayonnaise jar!)

Hey for $149 that’s the price of an average stomp box. I ordered one up for the heck of it… As did I. Great for headphone practice.
I got one for $127 (open box) at GC on the same theory. If you like this sort of thing, I suppose it’s a good deal. I fiddled around with it for about a half an hour and it wound up getting pushed under the bed where it’s been ever since. Maybe when I find my headphones… I never could find a setting I didn’t think sounded like crap, but I’m pretty lazy about fiddling with stuff. My take is that except for a tuner and a hypertrophied RockMan, a guy who wants amp modelling for recording is ahead by just getting some warez plugins. Same effect, less clutter, zero cost. [shrug]

Why don’t you sell your’s to the guy for $120,(or less), + shipping? – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Hey for $149 that’s the price of an average stomp box. Good question: 1: Don’t need the money. 2: _Really_ don’t need the hassle. 3: I probably can find a use for it, plus I ordered some new headphones today. Can’t find my old ones, some Roberts cheapies originally from the PX in Saigon. Probably make better sounding headphones now, you think?

Good enough reasons. As for # 3. Ah man you coulda got one of doze Chinese mic that sound like a U-87 for that much!!!! LOL! Nah I got a J-station and it’s alright. I like the POD better in general however the J-Station is superb I think for direct recording high-gain amp sounds…less mushy then the POD’s Dual Rectifier simulations and with more presence in the mix. The rest of the sounds and effects are to me similar to most of Digitech’s RP series of effects processors. Overall though it’s a cool little guy to have in the studio and is capable of some useful sounds, but don’t expect juicy tube sounds from the lower gain overdrive stuff. The high gain stuff however is pretty rich in my opinion. Hope ya like it. Chris G. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Hey for $149 that’s the price of an average stomp box.
