Running in the rain!!
Question:
I agree, I never miss a run unless it is lightening. I also run if there is heavy snow, being from the northeast you really have to be dedicated or give up! I never give up

I run in the rain here in New Orleans all the time, but your right about people thinking it’s stange. Many times as I’ve been leaving work for a lunch time, I’ve had people tell me it’s raining and then give me that "you must be nuts look" when I tell them I intend to run anyway. A few weeks ago a co-worker and I ran through the French Quarter, the central business district and around the Super Dome during the torrential rain beign produced by tropical storm Francis. We had a blast! Ran through some streets where the water was mid-calf deep. Got pleanty of stange looks and comments that day! I sweat so much I come back soaked wether it’s raining or not; so I might as well enjoy the cooler runs in the rain. Good luck. Jim"quack – quack" Driscoll

I am often amused when I head south for a vaction. On more than one occaision I have encountered runners from southern States in the US out on training runs or at races and they have told me things like, "Well, I could not train at all last week". Of course, I would ask why? "It was raining", would be the response!! Steve Fleck
You’re right. It’s almost embarrassing how spoiled runners get down here. I’ll skip a run if there’s lightning or torrential rain and wind, but I’ll run in other stuff – usually alone. Mike Tennent "TriBop" ‘98 Ironman Canada, 16:17:03

- Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Having taken a few days off from injury, I was like a junkie who needed some drugs, I went jogging today and it was pouring rain, I mean pouring rain. So I put my walkman in a plastic bag and took off, after awhile the legs went a bit numb and I really enjoyed it, not a soul in sight except for a few other crazy cyclists. Well I got soaked, couldn’t see a thing with these darn glasses and my new haircut looked pretty pathetic afterwards. But boy was it good to be back. I admit I got some pretty strange looks from people in restuarants as I soggily jogged by. Only 3 days till my first 10km Olympic Dream funrun, an estimated forecast of 31 degrees celsius for the day. Ah love those runner’s high’s. Anyone here like to jog in the rain? It doesn’t hurt, it is only water;) Nicole:)
Nicole, We run quite a bit in the rain here in Vancouver, BC. This time of the year can be particularly wet. In fact I just returned from a 15K road race where it was raining so hard at the start you could barely see. Some sections of the road had turned into a river with water coursing along the road bed. I love running in the rain…A little distant thunder and lightening even adds to the experience. Ran an 8K here in Atlanta this morning. Weather conditions: Drizzle and low 50s. Result: Best 8K time in 4 years. Quack Quack!

harald if you lived down here in portland, you’d only have to put up with 8-1/2 months of winter! but you’re right, you either give up being a runner or you learn to run wet out here. my main need right now is to get new waterproof headphones for my walkman. dry shoes are hard to do at times; i usually just wait for the rain to let up a bit. the main thing for me is that, working in a cube farm with no windows near me, running is vital to maintaining my mental health. it’s raining? so what? i was born here; i’m a duck. you get wet, you dry off, and nothing bad happens. t.a. I kid about 9 months of winter because it doesn’t get that cold in Seattle, but it does rain or shower or drizzle constantly. By suiting up in wicking fabrics and breathable shells, I can get out there and stay comfortable while enjoying the solitude. I’m looking forward to a speed session after work today in the rain. — Harald — Remove X in name to email me (SPAM avoidance) "Those who would give up essential Liberty, to purchase a little temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety." -Ben Franklin
