Need information for a beginner runner
Question:
I am planning to start jogging and would like to know if there are any things I should know to run properly so I can the most out of the exercise. Any info will be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Jess

Depending on how far into this sport you want to get, there is a ton of stuff to know. But to someone at the very beginning I would offer two things to bgein with: 1. Buy some good running shoes. Go to a store that specializes in running (not football and basketball) and ask for help in choosing. 2. Build the mileage up slowly. Don’t try to qualify for the Boston Marathon your first week. Go slow and easy. Listen to your body. As your fitness grows, up the tempo and distance. You’ll be amazed how quickly you can improve, but the most common cause of beginners quitting is trying to do too much too soon and learning to hate running in the process. Kurt Bray

There is an informative FAQ for beginning runners periodically posted to rec.running. I found it helpful when I started running last spring.
