Can tight shoes cause shin pain?
Question:
Golly Tim, My feet hurt in sympathy, just from reading your post! You are the best judge of what feels good, no matter how great the Dr. says they are, if they hurt, then running in them will suck. As far as tightness…is the shoe allowing enough flex?(midsole?) I have ankle and or shin pain if my shoes are too stiff or rigid and don’t flex enough at the midpoint. So I go through the shops bending every darn shoe until one flexes just so… I am just a rank novice, but I feel your pain! Teresa
Response:
Hey all, After being presented with some rather unpleasent options by my podiatrist, I’m now down to grasping at straws. I know this is a long shot, but could tight shoes cause lower/inner shin pain? I made the mistake of buying the running shoes like I usually bought shoes previously, not realizing that "snug" can be a touch on the tight side. Of course, I bought them BEFORE the orthotics, so once you add in the orthotics I can’t wear them comfortably even sitting down for more than a few hours. They don’t make my feet hurt/ache, just some blisters and discomfort from the pressures of a tight shoe around your foot. The doctor watched me walk in them, and says they’re a very good shoe for me… Should I go out and drop another couple hundred on a bigger pair? Is there any chance that my weeks of woe are being caused by running in a 10.5 when I find a 11EE dress shoe comfortably snug (counting orthotics)? (Wow… I ask a lot of injury questions….)
