Question:
Hi Theresa So a few reps on the Torso Track should do it, huh? Coo – more muscles! Jules
Response:
Arrrgh Jules, I hates gadgets!! (except for my treadmill, it was too pricey to hate) IMO anyone infomercialling a gadget has probably had liposuction AND other cosmetic surgeries…so I don’t believe them anyhoo. They *lied* to mother nature! But <sly smile the pushups DO help! And I am oooooold, with formerly flabby arms…You gotta believe me.
Teresa
Response:
Next time stretch and move your arms a little before you run and I bet they won’t hurt. Also, start doing a few push-ups or dips or something. Strong (but not huge) arms can make running easier.
Fank you moi ducks, I shall do that!

‘Formerly flabby’ – now there’s an inspirational phrase. So – how old (I’m 40) and how long have you been running, and please tell me not to be depressed because I still can’t make eight minutes, even in my tenth week!
Response:
Oh Jules, I am 41 began running at age 38. I had walked for exercise, which was okay, but not enough cardio work. Wow, I have been running now almost 3 years…I started in August. I never was athletic, I was the fat kid in glasses who never got picked… and had even been cautioned not to over exert myself by my MD….as I have epilepsy. <violins play soulfully About the arms…I used to get desperately painful stitches in my shoulders (round my collar bone) and upper ribs during any longer runs of an hour or more. I felt it was simply because I had not built enough muscle to carry my upper body and shoulders well… Since I began the pushups…*poof*! no more stitches. You CAN do it!! If I can, anyone can.
It took me a year and a bit to run over an hour…you’ll get there. Teresa

Arms feel telling you there here. This is good. What you going to do. So many ways to shape and form too how you want them and for what used. Good luck. Godspeed,

Some judicious use of spacing turns these into Haiku: Arms feel telling you there here. This is good. What you going to do. So many ways to shape and form too how you want, Them and for what used. Hello! Still waddling, even in this heat. Did a measured three miles on roads today, and got round in 40 minutes, which in a way was disappointing, but at least I got round (those of you who don’t know me, I’m not exactly a natural athlete, OK??). Thing is, and it’s been bothering me for most of my long ten weeks as a ‘runner’: why do my arms ache so horribly for the first five minutes or so? Is it because I need to do some upper body work – my arms being kinda big but very weak…
Response:
Hi Jules, I do pushups after my runs…20, 30 whatever I can manage.(don’t laugh..it used to be 5, and collapse) I do them after so I am already warmed up..it’s easier. And Jules…athletes aren’t born that way…they are MADE!! So go for it.
Teresa
Response:
My arms sometimes hurt for the first few minutes too. Usually that happens when I don’t stretch or warm up my arms during my pre-run routine. As runners I think we sometimes tend to concentrate too much on our legs and forget the importance that our arms play. Next time stretch and move your arms a little before you run and I bet they won’t hurt. Also, start doing a few push-ups or dips or something. Strong (but not huge) arms can make running easier. -jeff
