Question:

Dear Race Director, (San Francisco Marathon). 3.  A favor that will keep me out of trouble. REMOVE THE FUCKING ANTI-ABORTIONIST FROM THE COURSE. IF I SEE THEM THIS YEAR YOU WILL READ ABOUT ME IN THE NEWS PAPER. The race is not about politics/religon  its about mental and physical strength.  This is insulting to pay you guys this money so that some christian right piece of shit can show me a sign of an aborted fetus while I am running.

Just wanted to point out (and not to start any kind of religious war here) that the same constitutional right that allows you to speak theses eloquent words also guarantees the right to assemble peacefully in public. "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances." Respectfully, John Wehman to reply via email, remove the DIE_SPAM_ from my email address

Response:

Clearly, they should have the right to assemble, but that is not what they are doing.  (If they wanted to have a meeting, a running race would be a very odd choice.)  They should also have the right to disseminate information.  But, just as they probably cannot show pornography, for the same reason they could be disallowed from showing pictures of an aborted fetus.         I hope the time will come when people are granted the right not to be exposed to information.  In other words, the freedom of the press should not be a freedom to force information on people who don’t want it.  For example, I think spam should be illegal. Response:

Dear Race Director, (San Francisco Marathon).  Some requests:  1. Have relayers where different color bibs. THEY ARE NOT RUNNING 26.2 MILES. Each team member is running *close* to the total distance but not quite all of it.   2. Please do not have the city post no parking tow away signs after people park at kezar. Try having the city POST THE SIGNS THE NIGHT BEFORE, THEN RUNNERS DRIVING TO KEZAR ****EARLY*** WILL KNOW THAT THEIR CARS WILL BE TOWED.  3.  A favor that will keep me out of trouble. One request on the lighter side, I would like to see more men wearing womens cloths on the course, maybe you can replace the anti-abortionist with these folks.   PS: I posted this to the public forum rec.running. So many, many people will see this post. I    I LOVE THIS CITY!   -Tom-

Its not the constitution that allows me to speak in this manor, its the freedom of the internet. The constitution IS NOT upheld by the united states unless you live your life vicariously through the television networks.  You run san francisco and support these people?  -Tom-
