Summer weight loss

Categories: running pants

Question:

Every  summer I go thru weight loss and every winter put it back on. Is there some secret to keep it off? I know, I know eat less or run more. Just wondering what some of you all might be using as "tricks" to keep the weight off during the cold season. Honestly? I’ll probably sound like a nutcase here…

Anywhere else maybe, but not on RR… Lee

Honestly? I’ll probably sound like a nutcase here…I put on a pair of long john pants, nylon running pants, a dri-fit shirt, a hooded top, gloves, and a ski mask…and I get out there as soon as I get home from work, for an hour a day, regardless of how much snow is on the ground. No real tricks, unfortunately. Just keep the calories down, and keep running!

Cannabilism. Runners are pretty quick, so you burn off cals just catching them, and they’re lean so there’s not much fat.

My completely non-scientific opinion is that in the hotter months, eating just doesn’t feel quite as comfortable.  In the winter perhaps I enjoy a few more bites of food at each meal because it provides a feeling of warmth and satisfaction in a cold dreary season.  I bet those bites add up.  In the summer, I feel a little fuller and a little less eager for a big satisfying meal by just a little bit, but perhaps that adds up.  Thus I carry about 165 lbs in the summer and 175 in the winter on my 6′0" frame.  I also exercise less in winter because I can only run 5 m/day, rather than my summer 4-8 m/day plus daily swimming plus occasional biking.  I do run farther in the winter, so maybe this balances out the lack of swimming. — Josh in Syracuse (where no one swims in the winter without a health club membership)

Don’t sweat the small stuff! From an evolutionary standpoint, your body is doing what it should be doing.
