Hypoglycemia and weight loss

Categories: running jogging

Question:

Congratulations on your wedding! What really works for me (also a hypo) is brisk walking, running, jogging, tennis, any strenuous (to your level) activity at LEAST 3 times a week.  Round that out with swimming (great aerobic conditioner with no stress) or other milder workout. Cross-training is best.  IT takes time but once you get it into your daily routine it will become easier to fit into your life.  And the REULTS are amazing. Best of luck! M. J.  Barczak

Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can lose weight by my June wedding?  I was diagnosed with hypoglycemia about 9 months ago, have lost 15 lbs., and have been plateauing for several months now.  The rapid 30 lbs. weight gain is what brought me to the doctor in the first place.  I should say closer to 40 lbs. weight gain.  I weighed in at 168 lbs. and I should be about 130lbs. to look and feel healthy.   As a hypoglycemic I have to eat frequently, as you know, and protein has to be a part of all of my *meals*.  My diet is very low-fat, and walk from class to class on a large university campus, but I think I need to do some other form of exercise.

I’ve be hypoglycemic for about 5 years now.  It’s been my experience that the only way I have to control my weight is by exercising.  While most people can make two kinds of change: calories in (food) and calories out (exercise), I don’t have the option of cutting back in my intake. Walking between classes is good, but you might want to consider doing some other aerobic stuff like bike riding or aerobics classes.  I go through phases, but when I’m getting exercise it seems to actually help the hypoglycemia a little as well. -russ

Rosemary, I’m sorry I don’t have any brilliant ideas other than plain old exercise. But I do think you might not want to be too concerned.  Looking great at your wedding is important, I know, but to your fiance, you will look great anyway. Think of it this way, If you don’t loose it all by the wedding, your lover will be able to look forward to a period of ever improving views.  And won’t it be nice in ten years when your wedding gown is, rather than too small, too big!
