Question:
I have had it, another day and no loss. I’m going to have a few Crown Royals and Cokes and watch the tube!!!!! No running tonight, without seeing any results it is hard to continue this!!!! I just cannot keep doing it, the watching what I eat, the making sure the portions are the right size, the not over indulging, the calculating. I HAVE HAD IT!!!!! Thanks everyone for the support you have offered. Good luck to you all, not that you need it much, you all seem to be doing so well. Chris
Response:
Ok enough of that! If we can do it, so too can you. Losing weight is such a highly individual thing. What you need to tell yourself is that your "woosh" could be just around the corner. Still coming….if you quit now, what have you acomplished? Do you rule your body or does it rule you? Maybe, you just don’t want it yet? <sly grin Don’t quit trying!! Then use that dismay to stick with it! If you give up now, you’ll feel this way next month, next year – always! Wow. I remember my plateau at 165 lb for four straight weeks. I also remember the following week and my delight at dropping 2 lbs and then continuing to drop more… If I had have given up during my plateau I would have missed out on some great feelings of achievement. I hope you try again when you are feeling a little more positive, Chris. =) Jacqueline Sometimes there needs to be more chlorine thrown into the gene pool.

dear chris, i hope that you are at least making those soda’s "diet"! chris, your attitude right now, is the reason that i like to encourage folks to go slow and have patience and find a WOE ( way of eating ) and a WOL (way of life) that they can continue in the future! an example? i find that folks who get on "starvation" type diets, and/or spend "too much" time exercising, don’t stick to their plan. can use for the rest of your life, and live with that! meanwhile, take a break, rest, regroup! — read and post, rosie “We’re letting the gun lobby know it is no match for America’s moms

What kind of woe are you on? Can you tell everyone how many cal a day you eat approx? maybe give a sample of what you eat in a day….. Do you make sure you eat breakfast? It helps to get your metabolism going .. Water is important for your body, for metabolism… you need at least 8 – 8oz glasses a day plus another glass for every 25 pounds overweight you are.. Crown Royals or any other alcohol is not going to help you lose weight. Quite the opposite… they may make you not care that you havn’t lost, but it won’t help in the long run. I hope you do post a sample of what you eat in a day… how tall are you, and what do you weigh? How much do you want to lose? Apologies if you have already given this info.. there are so many posts on here, I can’t remember all, but i do hate to see someone giving up. Hi Chris, I’ll be the "bleeding heart" of the group today. Three weeks into my diet, I felt like you do now. I am doing low-carb, and had lost 5 pounds the first week, 3 the second, NOTHING the third. I had not cheated – one bite. At that time my workout was 3 miles on the treadmill (fast pace!), weight machines, free- weights, and then and hour of water aerobics – (NOT granny- style), five days a week. It seemed to me that ALL of the posts I read from low-carbers were successful ones – "everyone" was lossing more in the first week, than I had lost in three! I felt like a complete failure. I had myself a ROYAL "pity-party for one" – noone else wanted to attend my party. I did, however, get some great advice from others in this group. I decided to hang in, got MAD at my body and upped my workout. The following week, I dropped 3 pounds. I have now lost 16 pounds, 1 1/2 clothe sizes, and MANY inches since 4/3/00. I TRULY understand how you feel. Perhaps you are doing nothing wrong – but I agree with others here, that it would be helpful for you to post your eating plan, sample menus, height, age, activity level, etc. PLEASE give us a chance to help you! I cannot tell you how grateful I am that I listened to this group when all I really wanted to do was quit. I have often told my 15yr old son "There is an answer to every question (problem), sometimes we just have to take a different route to find the answer….." You may need a different eating plan. Hey, don’t give up!!! Have you considered zigzagging (raising and lowering your caloric intake)? Have you measured yourself to see if you are getting smaller even if the number on the scale isn’t changing? Lots of people have plateaus; it must be frustrating, but maintaining is better than gaining, and if you decide to give up and eat, then you’ll gain. Even if you decide not to focus on losing weight right now, try adjusting your caloric intake so that you maintain your present weight without gaining, then when you’re ready you can try to lose again. — alabina 1/96 | 3/96, 11/97, 9/98, 3/99, 10/99 | current | goal 148 / [136-140] / 131 /[127-131]

Chris, Is your weight fluctuating at all? Or is it always flat…same weight day after day? I have been on my diet now for almost two weeks, and have noticed on some mornings, after exercising the previous day and enduring mind-numbing hunger, I’d actually gained 4 pounds. But then the next day I’d be down 3 pounds, the day after that up 2, etc…point is, that my weight *is* gradually going down….key word gradually. Looks like my two-week loss will be something like 7 pounds, which ain’t nothing to sneeze at. Best thing I’ve done so far is to create a spread sheet…horizontal axis/pounds, and verticle axis/weeks of the month. Only do a spreadsheet for a single month at a time, though…this way, even a 1-2 pound drop looks impressive on the sheet, and provides mental encouragement and motivation (does for me anyway). Another suggestion…you mentioned running. For me, running/jogging at my present weight is just too damn tiring…my knees hurt, my legs hurt, I get out of breath very easily and it is discouraging. I switched to cycling, started daily 1-hour rides, and haven’t stopped yet. Moderate cycling burns something like 4-500 calories in an hour. Sure, you’d burn more if you jogged, but that only works if you keep jogging. When I get to my target weight or close to it, I may decide to do some jogging, but at least for now, cycling works out great for me. I’m trying to think about weight loss like I do the stock market…if you follow stocks every day, you will drive yourself crazy…over the long haul, however, stocks tend to move in the right direction. Your weight will, too, IF you keep at it. Enjoy those crown-n-cokes, and get back to it! Dave Before you buy.

If I’m remembering correctly, you’re the one who was just going on about sitting around and drinking cokes because you aren’t willing to put the effort into the weight loss if you aren’t going to see results because you went a day without seeing any loss on the scale. I’d say that whether you want it or not, you either don’t want it ENOUGH or that you really don’t want it. Sitting around drinking sugary soft drinks is hardly the path to good health whether you’re overweight or not. Sounds more like you want instant gratification and immediate results without having to exercise the discipline it’s going to take to lose the weight. There are lots of things that people want but are unwilling to work for. Unfortunately, if you’re fat and sit around drinking coke because you’re unwilling to maintain a sound course of action, you’ll stay fat. A lot of people perform bare minimum requirements on their jobs too and then bemoan the lack of advancement in their careers. The most rewarding goals tend to require more time and effort than a lot of people are willing to put into them. It may be easier for some than for others but let’s face it. You’re stuck with your own body, no one else is going to be able to put the time and effort into losing your weight for you and if you’re unwilling to work at that goal, you’re screwed. It may not have happened yet but if you quit it will never happen at all. Perhaps you need to change your plan, try a program, or see a doctor? Just don’t lose faith. Cokes won’t solve anything. Besides, nothing worth having is easy. I lost 20 pounds in 25 days and then came to a grinding and terrible stop when my gallbladder quit on me suddenly. Between that and my ulcer I couldn’t stay on any "diet" plan because I can’t eat fat, sugar, or milk. This means that I have to go over "points" (weight watchers talk) every day just trying to accommodate a really crappy world of choices. I wish I could just have a Coke or a Snickers but it would put me in the hospital and could kill me until my surgery(s). But, you know what? I’m not gaining weight and that’s really cool. I wish I could lose but I can’t right now, not without a lot of bitterness and that would be my undoing. So I keep up the exercise and eat cautiously and focus all my available energies on not gaining. And I’m winning this race. Win yours. You can, you know. What you are doing isn’t working so find something else. AND DON’T USE THIS STALL AS AN EXCUSE TO GAIN, DAMMIT! You have more value love yukari

As I said before Stacy, and your right, I have failed. I have turned to having a Crown Royal and Coke because it takes away all the pain I feel when I look in the mirror and see no changes after this continuous hard word through diet and exercise. In fact, right now as I read this I’m polishing off my third for the night, last night it was four, tomorrow whos knows. Yes, it is easy for others but not for me, I tried, for weeks, not days as you suggested, and nothing has happened. The last line of your message completely put it into perspective for me, I’M SCREWED. Thank you so much for this support. C

You’re stuck with your own body, no one else is going to be able to put the time and effort into losing your weight for you and if you’re unwilling to work at that goal, you’re screwed. Stacy 199/134/undecided — As I said before Stacy, and your right, I have failed. C

yukari If you really did want it, nothing would stand in your way. look, you are having a pity party,. We have all been there and done that. But giving up won’t move the scales either. So what use is that. Instead, keep up the diet and the exercise, because that will move the scales when your body is ready to give up some more weight. every system in your body changes. That takes time some days, sometimes it takes a few months. but if you keep giving up, you will never make it. — claudia Private Weight Loss Consultant and Author 615/377/157 To email me remove the potatoes Tipletter Writer for Dieting CyberTip4theDay Subscribe today: http://www.CyberTip4theDay.com For hundreds of free low-fat recipes and info visit Claudia’s Corner http://dietchef.ecorp.net Ok enough of that! Adreeanna Ya, right!! I would much rather be overweight, have my clothes not look good on me, not be able to go to the pool, have people I have not seen in a while tell me I have put on weight, and all the other wonderful things that come along with being overweight. Ya, your right, I just don’t want it yet.

Signalguy, it isn’t easy for ANY of us! But sitting around getting drunk sure isn’t going to change the image in the mirror and it also doesn’t really take away the pain, it just postpones it while it actually; makes things worse. it is your choice how to deal with it. It’s just too bad you aren’t choosing a more positive, method that will actually help the problem. The more you pity yourself and give in to weakness, the weaker you become. The more negativity you allow, the more negative you become. its a downward spiral. But you don’t have to let it happen unless you want it to. Quite bluntly, stop feeling sorry for yourself and use it as an excuse to justify going off your diet and start taking some responsibility for your life and weight loss and work to lose. Quite honestly, you sound like a child who is throwing a temper tantrum berceuse he is not getting his way. That sure won’t help you. And before you say this isn’t supportive, it is., I have responded with positive stuff, but you continue to whine and try to justify why you are acting the way you are. It is not supportive to be less than honest with you. And remember, it is NOT easy for anyone. It sure isn’t for me. The difference is that I deal with it in a positive way that improves things, rather than a destructive way that makes things worse. — claudia Private Weight Loss Consultant and Author 615/377/157 To email me remove the potatoes Tipletter Writer for Dieting CyberTip4theDay Subscribe today: http://www.CyberTip4theDay.com For hundreds of free low-fat recipes and info visit Claudia’s Corner http://dietchef.ecorp.net
– Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – If I’m remembering correctly, you’re the one who was just going on about sitting around and drinking cokes because you aren’t willing to put the effort into the weight loss if you aren’t going to see results because you went a day without seeing any loss on the scale. As I said, thank you for such wonderful advice, you have made me feel so great about myself. That I whine, don’t want to loose weight bad enough, etc. I’m so glad to have had this group, your tough kick in the pants approach to support is so warming. I will never read or post to this group again. I turned here for help, yes, I was having a difficult time, rather than being somewhat understanding I get told that I don’t want it bad enough. You can all exchange messages now saying that you all tried and how difficult I was being. If that makes you all feel better, fine, go ahead. I turned here for support and as far as I’m concerned, I was shut out. May I suggest that you do not volunteer for a suicide hotline, your tough approachs don’t work for everyone, maybe it worked for you. I’ll let you all get back to your little group and patting each other on the back about how much you lost this week.
