Running on alchohol
Question:
Back in the early 70’s there was a race called the " Wasted Wildcat Welay" in Manhattan, Kansas. A 2 person, 10 mile relay with alternating 440yd. legs… and at the end of each leg the racers had to chug a glass of beer. I was told the last team standing usually won; lots of vomit on the track, people falling down, etc. Maybe Fox can revive it for the fall T.V. season…… Jerry "Twenty five years ago, being crazy meant something; now everybody’s crazy". – Charles Manson, 1993

Anyone heard of Hashing? Its an entire sport dedicated to running and drinking, originated somewhere in Europe. Becoming very popular here in the states. Participants run, usually through city streets or woods, going from one drinking point to the next, guzzling beers as they go. I think what you are doing with your 1 glass of wine is tame compared to these guys. -Amit
Admittedly most of the drinking is normally done after the running, although there are notable exceptions. I remember on various hash weekends having a couple of pints of beer for breakfast before setting out on a 10 mile trail. — On-On, Blownout (aka. What’s the deal if I’ve enjoyed a glass of wine or two? I’ve done this before but w/ lite beer not wine (*no* not regularly just happens every now and then
). Make sure you hydrate well beforehand and after, and you should be fine! Andrea

The Brits (who else?) invented the modern hash in the form recognized today in Kuala Lumpur in 1938. http://www.gthhh.com/bible/gtbib1b.htm On-on Fred Klingener

One of the guys in our running club asked us 2 months ago if we were hashers……we had no clue what he was talking about, and that was how we found out about it. I am such a lightweight that I wouldnt be able to drink and run, half a wine cooler and I am asleep… Ally whose goals and aspirations lead her to stupidly train for too much stuff entirely!!!

I’ve heard about a beer box run at Kaiserslautern/Germany. The race distance is 8K. 2 runners have to carry a beer box (8 liter) and to empty it on the way. The date of this race is August, 4th 2001 (if you like to participate
I wonder, what would be the best strategy. Just empty the box at the start and then run or carry the box to the finish line and empty it there. Who knows. I couldn’t do either
There is a homepage: http://www.bierkistenrennen.de/ (German language) Cheers, Rudiger

Have you ever heard about the "Marathon du Medoc"? It stands in France near Bordeaux every year in september and is run by 8000 people !! You’ll travel through the country, in one of the most famous wine producing regions in the world. You’ll run alon not less than 59 "chateaux" among which (and I can tell these are GREAT wines, hope you can afford them) : Ch
