Omaha Running
Question:
I have to travel south to the Omaha area the week of the 28th. Looking for some advice on places to put some miles on. Trails, running paths or other safe and traveled areas. Thanks Lee
If the weather holds without snow or ice, there are several trails I run that are nice: 1) Lake Zorinski in the Millard area of Omaha (156th St. south of West Center) which follows around the lake for 7.5 miles. 2) Lake Wehrspan which is east of Zorinski a few miles. Again, follows the lake shore for 6.0 miles. 3) West Papio Trail with a parking area at about 160th and Pacific and going north past Blondo and back along the West Papio Creek for 6.0 miles (up and back). This trail is between the creek and residential lots going under roads so there is no traffic concerns. 4) There is also a longer trail further in Omaha which is much longer, but I have not run it. It is reported to be not as pretty and has more bikes, bladers, etc. because there is more distance available to them. (I don’t live in Omaha, but outside in one of the smaller towns, but go in for some of these runs on weekends when I have a little more time) You can also check out the Omaha Running Club’s web site at http://www.omaharun.org. Hope you enjoy your stay. Dick Aichinger
