London Marathon.
Question:
I’m hoping to run the London marathon next year – will my entry be more likely to be accepted if I’m a member of a running club ????

The best way to ensure a place is to contact one of the many charities who are looking for people to run for them. They advertise extensively in the running mags during the run-up to the London

Being a member of a running club will not give you any advantage in so far as your individual London marathon application is concerned, but running clubs were, and I assume still are,(I’ve not been a club member for a few years now), given an allocation of marathon entries to distribute amongst their members. The number given dependant on the total membership of the club. The club I belonged to with a membership of about 100, received two entries. So joining a running club should give you a second bite of the cherry if your individual application is unsuccessful. — Peter Elsden Runaid Enterprises www : http://www.runaid.demon.co.uk UK

Yes. Affiliated clubs get 1 entry per 25-30 members. The club I belong to, Wimbledon Windmilers, raffles its entries among members who can prove that their personal applications have been rejected. I’ve twice succeeded in getting in this way.
