Alexandria, VA clubs
Question:
I have an imminent transfer pending to Washington DC. I am looking to relocate in Alexandria, VA. Major factor will be the track situation. I, have all the other info regarding schools, crime rates, yadda, yadda, yadda. USATF does not list a web site for VA. Can anyone help regarding the state of youth track programs in the area? I am interested in both track and cross-country. I realize that to some, the availability of track as a factor in considering a move might seem trivial, but this newgroup will understand. My assumption is that it should be relatively easy to hook up with another running club in the area, but I need cinfirmation of whether or not this is the case. Replies to the group or to private e-mail greatly appreciated. Maryann

I have 6 running tracks in a 10 mile radius of my home (that has to be a record or something). Geez, am I spolied rotten.. I could not even contemplate moving to some area where there was not at least 1 or 2 tracks readily available.

The area has plenty of track and cross-country. That part of Northern Virginia had a number of strong teams, and active programs in or out of school. TC Williams (can’t remember if that’s Fairfax, Alexandria, or something else, but it’s _very_ close) seems to be a center of activity, both by way of the school having strong teams, having open clubs practice there, and hosting all comer’s meets. Don’t know the school, but the area did have a 4:07 (iirc, Sharif) miler two years ago. You might try the Montgomery County Road Runner’s club for links to the VA clubs (their ‘area running’ page) http://www.mcrrc.org/ — Robert Grumbine http://www.radix.net/~bobg/ Science faqs and amateur activities notes and links. Contact the DC Roadrunners (who are actually based in Arlington, VA), web address: www.dcroadruners.org. Or, the N. Va. Roadrunners at www.tiac.net/users/tumg/nova_runners. Or, the Va. Track Club, no website, but phone is 703-267-9693. I used to live in Alexandria and occasionally ran on the track at T.C. Williams HS. N. Va. Roadrunners used that track for speedwork, etc. They’re a very friendly group and warmly welcome new members. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – I have an imminent transfer pending to Washington DC. Before you buy.

Go to usatf.org and look up the Potomac Valley Track Club, they are active in the northern VA, DC, and Maryland region, and I happen to know they hold track meets over the summer every other Sunday in VA. I live in MD and used to run there. Hope that helps… Todd
