5k Report – Roseannadana Dash 5k

Categories: running club

Question:

It seems like in all our races I keep getting closer and closer to her.  I was expecting to cross the finish line right next to her on that race.

Look at the brightside, by the next race you may not just equal her, but may actually beat her! "Make no mistake about it! Without humor, freedom would drive you insane." Bill               I am so cool, that sheep count ME before they go to sleep. http://hometown.aol.com/mrrobottow/

Response:

I don’t know if I can really blame anything on using my heavier racing flats, but I’d like too.  ;-)

I’ll buy it. :-) Oh boy, I’ve got to run to work right now.  It will be pretty interesting turning everything back on.  Someone had to replace a transformer over the weekend so our building was without power.  Well, except for a few items that were powered by a gas generator, but I didn’t rate.

Yeah, we’ve got to figure out a different boondoggle so we can run more. Dealing with any sort of power interruption is a pain. Good luck. Layne The rec.running report archives may be found at http://kinder.cis.unf.edu/rec.running

I guess this is also why 2 skydivers had died from blood cloth in the brain this year after breaking an ankle ? To me it looks like somebody (say doctors) are forgetting about sports injuries, and only remembers overweight injuries. — Return e-mail is a spam tarpit.

Nice one Roger!!! What a way to start the season!

Thanks David, I found out last night that one of the girls that was going to run the race, decided not to because "she didn’t want to get her hair wet." It seems like in all our races I keep getting closer and closer to her.  I was expecting to cross the finish line right next to her on that race.  Oh well, maybe next time. Man, if that race didn’t change hands, the results would have been posted less than an hour after the race.  I wonder if they will ever be posted now. I should find out pretty soon what is going on. Roger

Response:

[snip] Great job, Roger! Thanks for reading and happy running,         Roger

Good going, Roger!  Any time you best your previous time at the same event is a great time. -S- Thanks Steve, I’m still shooting to beat your 5k PR of 20:10, which seems a why off right now.  ;-)

It’s less than a minute off – about :17/mile according to my math. I’ll do my best to beat you to it! :) -S- – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – I might have been more worried about it on this race, but I think I’ll save that for April 20th when I try to run a 5k in Indy.  I just hope it doesn’t rain there. Course:  Flat with one viaduct that we started on. DUDE! Good one. Viaduct? <g

Rob, Thanks.  The casino that helped sponsor the race, built a bridge a few years ago, that goes over some railroad tracks.  I’m referring to that as a viaduct. Roger

Response:

Bib Number:    1000 Prize for getting bib 1000:  A Ben Stein Night Light Weather Conditions: 42F  with rain at start Food:  Eggs with mushrooms and Pop. Goal:  Sub 21:32 (last year’s time) Finish time: 21:07 Females ahead of me: One at 20:49 Shoes:  7oz racing flats.  not my 5 oz flats. Money won at a casino after the race:  $5.00 Course:  Flat with one viaduct that we started on. Because of the rain at the start, I was wishing I hadn’t entered, but after the race I wish the race had been longer. One of the people, about 10 minutes before the race, was kidding me about me carrying an umbrella for him and run at a 6 minute pace.  More later. I started about 3 people back from the very start.  I was with people I hardly ever see during a race. People liked my bib number of 1000.  I said, I thought they gave that bib number to everybody. I was running with a person I wanted to pace, but I could see the other person ahead of me and decided to catch him.  I sped up, caught him and said to him: "Well, I don’t have an umbrella, but is this a 6 minute pace?"  He ended up doing a low 17 minute 5k. He sped up right after that and I sped up again.  All the sudden, about 3 short blocks into the race, I noticed I was breathing pretty hard.  Had to slow down a bit after that. Sure I went out too fast, but I had fun doing that, but what probably made the biggest difference was missing 2 Sunday long runs because of work. Splits: mile    Lap    Time       Avg. Max 1         6:23    06:23    162     186 2         7:00    13:23    185     192 3         7:06    20:30    192     196 3.1        :37    21:07    194     195 My second fastest 5k ever, so I’m happy.  The only female that finished ahead of me came from a town 150 miles away so it could have been none again. Oh ya, I took the bulb out of the Ben Stein night light and put it in my cat’s night light. As for the money.  Well they gave us all a ticket good for $5.00 worth of slots at a casino after the race.  I traded it in and got a $5.00 bill and put the bill in a slot machine twice.  It fed it back to me twice so I decided, if that was the only way I could "win" anything, I’d keep it. Thanks for reading and happy running,         Roger

Thanks Layne, I actually thought the Sub-21 was going to fall again yesterday, but I guess that early race sprint took 7 seconds out of me.  Darn. Response:

Roger, congrats on the race…. fun race report too! um, the eggs and mushrooms with pop… was that your breakfast or what they served at the race???? not typical post race refreshments. nice running,

Thanks Cam. Actually, they served that for breakfast after the race.  They have a big breakfast in a huge room after the race.  The last two years it was so packed that people had to sit on the floor, but this year, with more people, there were a lot of empty seats.  It looks like a lot of people bailed after the race instead of sticking around. People always remark how neat the post race party is for this race.  The thing people forgot to mention today was it was better before when another running club used to be the one that put on the race. I’ve heard there are other races in this area that started doing their own race instead of having someone from a running club be the main one involved. On one of the other races that did that, it meant the results would not be posted to the internet.  I hope that same thing doesn’t happen with this race. Thanks again,         Roger

Interesting cat stuff Roger. I notice that my cat leaves a half-full bowl then wails for more. I just thought he was hoping for something tastier – like mushrooms and eggs. charlie — "You are not special. You are not a beautiful or unique snowflake. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Nice one Roger. Tasty food. Why does your cat have a night light. Is it afraid of the dark??? Thanks Charlie, "Tasty food?"  Well, I’m not real fond of mushrooms, but I can eat them if I have too. I’ve heard somewhere that cats can’t really see in the dark, despite what the rumors were.  So I placed a night light is by it’s essentials, food and water etc. that happened to burn out a while ago and needed a new bulb. I’ve also read not too long ago, that things up close to them are blurry. That would explain why it leaves so much food in it’s bowl when it squawks for more food. Thanks again,         Roger
