Question:

I suggest a little experience to get rid of your shyness. It’s really fun trip to do and it can really boost your PR (personal relationship) ability. I hope your gonna try it and give me some feed back on how it went. Here the go : – Go to a city close to you but where you never went. (Without any map)      Where do I go you ask me? That is the fun part of it, you don’t really know ;-) – Stop in the first gaz station and ask the cashier where you can find a nice coffee. – Go there with the direction he/she gave you. – Once you get there. Get a coffee or something and spot someone alone.      Preferably someone who hasn’t finished (You can also spot a group of 2 or 3) – Walk to him/her or them, just say Hi! I am alone and looking to chat may I sit with you? – It will probably work, if it don’t work don’t worry and just take some news paper and read. – If it work you can talk of a lots of topics. Try to learn whats fun in this city etc… – This is the last step : Enjoy now the new social extroverted person youve became. Don’t ever tell you it’s ridiculous. Just get in your car and go!!!! Without thinking. You should try the fun places youve learned about too. Make some fun!!! JP

One of the former employees brought his baby. Ohhh … so adorable. One of my co-workers has a baby around the same age. Too bad he didn’t bring her as well — then we would have had *two* babies and it would have been so fun watching them interact. The guy who hosted the party had a really neat house. He’s really into woodwork and has built up a nice deck with walls out back. His wife goes to a lot of antique auctions, etc. So the house and backyard are filled with weird old stuff — old machines, clocks, statues, etc. So when I couldn’t find anyone to talk to, I’d walk around looking at the stuff. I was pretty exhausted by the end of it (about 3 hours later), although I hadn’t really done anything. Social events are *so* draining. Well, it’s over (and has been for a few weeks, lol). Yup, I can sympathize.  I dislike the amorphous nature of such parties myself.  I mean, are you just supposed to walk up to people and… do what?  Just start up random conversations? My unease generally correlates with how important it is for me to make a reasonably good impression on the other people (i.e., whether they will think I have the personality of a rock for sitting around, being silent most of the evening).  When I don’t care about the impression I’ll make, I have no problem with these parties (or rather, I find them to be an annoying burden, but not anxiety-producing in any real way).

Well you have your thesis as an excuse.. you can go but leave early if you’re not not confortable staying there, at least you’ll have time to say goodbye. If you don’t get any replays to that email just bring something edible for the coworker that’s leaving. Relax :)

Yes, the latter is a big part of it. Also, any sort of uncertainty makes me nervous — I have never been to this house before, so that makes me nervous (what if I trouble finding it). I didn’t know what to do about food (but I do now), so that made me nervous. Etc. >It’s >easy just relax smile and drink something.

Yes, I have to remember to smile. I always forget that. Thanks for the reminder. >Think that you are in a >restaurant and find someone you know and speak with him/her.

The problem is that people are usually talking in groups, so I would have to walk up to a *group* and interrupt their conversation. Also, I don’t always have something to say. >Nothing more >nothing less. Nothing bad is going to happen to you. Are you shy to go to >your job?

Nope. >The same poeple is going to be there so do as usual.

You mean, work? :-) >speak with >those you know walk around like busy and that’s all!!!! >I hope it helps.

Thanks. I think it’ll be OK once I get there. I mean, I may or may not enjoy myself, but the anxiety should go down. — RK

I heard back from the folks planning this thing. It is a potluck after all. The theme is Tex-Mex. I don’t really cook, so I think I’ll make some 7-layer dip. I was originally going to go with guacamole, because, well, because that’s my thing, but that is dependent on finding good fruit, which I’m not sure I can do on this short notice. — RK

That gives you something to focus on before you go, and also a point of interest to work from once you’re there. Try to enjoy your time there instead of putting it into the context of trying to overcome your shyness. KC

At least if they’re by themselves, and not talking already, you can say "hi, how are you" or whatever, but usually, they’re already in groups engaged in conversation. In that case, you either have to – *gasp* – interrupt, or you can just walk up and stand next to the group. In the latter case, if you can’t find something of your own to contribute, it can get very awkward, not to mention tiring, after a while. >My unease generally correlates with how important it is for me to make >a reasonably good impression on the other people (i.e., whether they >will think I have the personality of a rock for sitting around, being >silent most of the evening).  When I don’t care about the impression >I’ll make, I have no problem with these parties (or rather, I find them >to be an annoying burden, but not anxiety-producing in any real way).

Well, these people know me well enough to not expect much talk from me. Plus, I did clue a few people in on the fact that I wasn’t comfortable with parties over the course of this week. I find that it helps if people already know. The same was true when I had to give presentations for school. If I let some people beforehand know I was nervous, I’d feel better. — RK

That’s another thing. Sometimes I don’t quite know how to leave a social event. Most people will go around and wave and loudly say bye to everyone, but I have trouble with that. But just slipping out doesn’t seem quite appropriate, either, besides, people will notice that, too. >If you don’t get any replays to that email just bring >something edible for the coworker that’s leaving.

Question:

Coffee will be served in ten minutes. How about a special on this Good Friday, and making it a real coffee pot instead of instant…? There is bread on top of the fridge and a bunch of home made jams of all kinds -save marmelade and citurs of course- in the fridge. Bagels in the freezer, and muffins too, and the microwave is right there. Oh yeah, and there is raisin and cinnamon bread too, this week: fresh from the bakery. Anyone wanting tea, the kettle is right here. There are tea bags in the tall cupbaord, back of the first shelf, to your left, and there is leaf loose tea in that can over there on top of the freezer. Tea pot is on top of the cupboards over the kettle. Remember, the lunch of the day is fish only, being Good Friday:), and supper is bread and wine, where maybe a nice cheese fondue would be indicated. And do try and see if the sky turns all black at 3 P.M. where you live, and report to this ng about if yes or no it did, will you…? C —

This is one thing that puzzles me about this country. They grow coffee here. They grow coffee next door (Col.) big time – and wear Appropriate Hats. This should be the world centre of coffee culture. Yet what to people drink here? Bleeding Nescafe. > There is bread on top of the fridge and a bunch of home made jams of all > kinds -save marmelade and citurs of course- in the fridge. bakery. I have plantains. Anyone for a plantain? Thought not. > Anyone wanting tea, the kettle is right here. The nearest you can get to tea here is "Iced Tea", which is usually no such thing. > Remember, the lunch of the day is fish only, being Good Friday:), and > supper is bread and wine, where maybe a nice cheese fondue would be indicated. > And do try and see if the sky turns all black at 3 P.M. where you live, > and report to this ng about if yes or no it did, will you…?

Must feel way more exotic. I mean, what fun could it be to have a homegrown coffee-break?? I am sure none of them wants anyone to think they’d be drinking on the job;) >> There is bread on top of the fridge and a bunch of home made jams of > all >> kinds -save marmelade and citurs of course- in the fridge. For breakky? Nah, I’ll stick to coffee, thanks:) But perhaps with fish? Plantain fish? I guess it could make nice fish patties. > Thought not. >> Anyone wanting tea, the kettle is right here. Don’t worry then: they apparently  have powerful beams of light that can spot you even at 3 P.M. on Good Friday. 2 P.M. here…. Nice spring day, snow melting and forming solid ice again in backyard…Here or there some grass shows…  Shall report on the 3 P.M. observations. For now, I am trying to escape from Titan who never recognizes me when my hair is wet, and who wants to attack me, to protect her eggs. Not bad, for the month of Aries;) I managed to clean the entire old yard (for what was melted) of dog messes that were trapped in ice all winter. Still a good oh, maybe 18-24 uinches of ice in the middle of the yard that must hold many surprises. Pretty "proud" of myself! I managed going to have my id card renewed (fleh, but better each year…If that can be called "better". New commissionnaire at that job, but someone who knew me when I worked as a commissionnaire as well. He recoignized me, ask me how, I was not ugly then;-). But anyway, the three comissionnairs there remembered me, and so did I, if that oen I took a moment to place. I just never knew him much at all, period. Anyway. I asked him if what’s his face, lil backhouse-boss was still working at phase 3, and instantly, the other two came out of their divider area giggling and saying "Oh,he is having it hard now, hahaha". I said "Al I know is that after I filed a complaint about him, I ran into someone else that also did later, and who learned I had as well though the process. Where he was told that so mnay complaints had landed on their desk that they were workign at fonding a way to rid of him. But thatw as three or four years ago. I was told by one of the guys that came out of his divider "True, you worked there and left. -I resigned. He wanted me to sign completely farfetched accusations to create complaint sin my file, so that he oudl nto ahve to transfer me. I ahd asked for a trnasfer and he ignored it for eight months, where the union garantees one in two days max then. I then told him that if by the next week I woudl not e translfered, I wouls NOT go work "upstairs" in that Ministe’s office, period, if I woudl show for work. That Friday he arranged to write three accusatiosn he wanted me to sign…I went "Wait a mionute…Three complaint in a file….Is that not the ony time when you donlt have to go by the union rtules and can refuse to transfer me? You can;t find anyone else for this dirty job, can you! You are inventign three complaints in my file to keep me stuck there to save your own a**, am I right???? -Yup. You got it right on the dot! Now sign these. -No way. Are you outta your mind?? The compkaints you invented are of criminal nature, destruction of proerty!! No way! -SIGN I said. So I did not, I got up and said "Gentlemen, been a pleasure working with you. I hereby hand you my immediate and irrevocable resignation. Have a nice day! And I walked out, where he shouted insanities at me. Promising me harrassment and troubles. I told him I was staring harrassment and abuse right in the face, looking him right in the eye. -Well, the commander was removed from there, and -Yay!!! Who replaced him? -The guy who used to be commander at Building X/. -Hey, I worked there a few weeks, too. He was a neat guy. He was okay! Man, that should nto go too well wiht the lil what’s his name…. -Who? -…I can say it now, I no longer am a commissionnaire: the lil backhouse-boss, ass kisser brownoser of a …… -Yep, P….. is his name. -Hehehahaha, you figured who it was just form that description huh? -Yup. Hear me well: there are things I can not say, but….Just hear me between the lines….He is having a hard time wiht the new commander. As you said they are completely different. Sparks are flying….Hahahaha. I can just tell you that. And they will fly,and that is fine….Until…Canlt say that part, but…I know stuff, trust me on that, okay?  -Gotcha. You’ll hear me clap from the next down on that day…:) I then could go to the drugstore and get a few lil pampering products, like crn remover;-) and pliers for nails (kidding for the pliers:)) and use that 30 dollar coupon I had as a present for my bday before it expired, and have it all on the same parking bill, nya nya. I then coudl go do banking, and I even got home, cleane the yeard, then went to the post office, to pick my new degrees (they sent me two more…Nice of them, no fees of 80 bucks this time!). Then I also got new running shoes for cheap, but neat ones:), ot fitting my face but wow, I like ‘em:) That cause my shoe sole on the other ony pair I have was cracked to the sole of my feet since a few years. Wet, that. Not good on footsies. Not good on colds. And sicne they were only 19, I got two pairs. One way way way too big, to just wear in the house and be completley copmfie:) Then I got back home, and I managed to sign two checks for the late rents, the Feb one, and a post dated one for the month of March dated April 20. Yikes. Gonna be real tight until that retroactive thing comes in and for all I know, might only be 200 bucks. But man, do I dream of a good 6,000;-). Pfft. Got back home again, and so far so good. The back is pulling a lot, but oh, so long as it allows me to function without acute pain tomorrow, I will count my blessings! Not bad!! I tried soemthign new today: eating breakky and lucnh. That is, two raisin toasts for breakky, and a banana for lunch. That i a LOT for me! Specially sicne i had broccoli for a snack at 2 A.M.:), and crackers and salami and pates for supper the night before:) No Titan is having her break before her supper, and the dogs had their treats and the other birds, new fresh seeds…. Time to unwind a bit before I get to feed Titan her pablum, and prepare the eds for the dogs, and serve myself a ratio of the same meds:). Glucosamine, made for horses….Not growing hooves yet:) (or is that what it is???):) but the pony tail sure has more body to it;-) Then the turtle and change all bird’s water….And then just take a few hours to rip the face off soem more and regrow it cell by cell, before playing strings with my toes…. Quite a sexy life, innit:):) I am so glad I am alone…I never could get better if I had to give time elsewhere….Not "yet" anyway. Oh, and I found two chocolate wabbits, solid, for 50 cents each:) One for my goddaughter, and one for my son;s sweet half….And for kiddo who still is in Florida for that ad and for a good fun and tanning time:) I got a swiss black chocolate toblerone. Coudl not find him one for XMas and was on his list then:) Now let;s hope I can manage to pay some bills with the visa minimum on the enxt pay day, before the ssecond pay of April goes on March rent, then pay the rest of the piled up monthlies with the forst one of May, then secodn of May, the rent for April…Then three checks in June. Rent of May, rent of June, visa card…. Oh, may that retroactive check thinge come in…I need top pay choro apointments twice a week for a month still, at 35 bucks a shot…. Pant pant pant….I am really being good…. I desrve them nbew runnign shoes, to stop hurting my feet wearing shoes two ponts too small (Graves makes your feet grow, imagien that:( Like I needed that!), and to feel less darn miserable wearign thsoe ugly big large yet too sort cracked soles ones. Only prob at the horizon: feverish, and sneezing and blwing my nose more today and this evening. Got so many things out of my hair the last months…. Now if Bell Canada and Cable can wait a month….. Or tough with a partial lil payment…. Pant pant pant (I.m not hyoer, I;m not hyper, I,m not hyer, not me <jmps up and down, gasps, chokes, stops but eyes keep moving on their own…:)>  >>  >>  >> >> Well…Now, if I talk about spring, will you start thinking *young* goats >> just after you managed to change the subject to weather?;-) > lmao

Well…Now, if I talk about spring, will you start thinking *young* goats just after you managed to change the subject to weather?;-) Weather is very nice. But they are calling for 10-15 cms of rain-now is it Thursday or tomorrow or what, where they expect not much woudl stay on the ground, maybe even just water. That is one station anyway, for the forecats. The other says fog tonight, still a bit in the early morning. Then between 4 and 11 C ll the way through to Friday, with a bit cooler on Thursday, around -4 to +7 C, to get back to +4 to +11 and even +14 on some days this week. Dunno what it was today of they called for a max of 11 C, but I woudl say it easily went over that. Some poeple were out in jeans and shirt, at lunch and break time. Is spring already all settld at the other end of the country? Or not at all yet? The ice in the yard (the entire yard is ice, where "the countour" melts a bit each day. Today, one one side of the yard, the ice mass moved back a good 3 ft, and on the other side (no direct sun) maybe 6 inches. I hate it when t melts into ice…Must say it WAS ice all winter, so…. But it then is ever so hard to pick aftert the dogs….It gets to be water over ice and the best way to slip and fall right into it. Not to mention that picking it up then is just the messiest thing ever…. I hope the neigbors can be patient and wait till the ice melts a bit more, and the water on it vanishes soemhow, so I can go pick after the dogs… Less messy to actually *wait*. I cross my fingers that no one complains until then, so that the day my back blocks in pain picking the yard at pring time from all the messes I missed as ice felt frm the skies, the chiro will not be too far in time to get me back on track. It is nt spring yet here. The weather was very nice today, but there still are ice banks and cold nights and so on. But it sure looks like it might have arrived, if winter has not quite left yet. Marble, that is. In the Simmons’s household, there is much laundry comprising of cycling attire, in particular, padded cycle shorts. These garments are worn fresh every time – all I’m going to say is nether regions, sweaty cycling – best to wear only once unless you want to develop something nasty down below ;-) Hygiene is a wonderful thing. This evening I gathered up the dirty cycling attire – lots of pairs of shorts in there as all three humans cycle. I turned my back to get the laundry liquid. I look round and what do I see? Yup.  Oscar adores our used cycling gear, martial arts gear, and ice hockey gear.  I’ve even seen her climb into DH’s ice hockey bag — I can’t express to you how ungodly disgusting that is. Somehow, though, she never ends up stinking like the bag, for which I’m glad. sounds like the MONSTER is rearing his ugly head, hope you get some meds soon, I have been on Copaxone for 8 years and no change in my yearly MRI in 4 years. however that does not mean I don’t get worse because I do, I have changed a lot in 4 years and don’t understand how come the MRI shows no changes. GOOD LUCK..I really mean that and welcome to the group. Joyce

solumedrol is a sort of quick fix but like Jennifer says you are hungry and gain weight, I had solumedrol 3 years in a row and each time gained 10 pounds that never left me, so that was an unwanted 30 pounds. I have refused it ever since.  I must say their was only 2 occasions when my neuro has suggested it in the past few years, but I said "look at me"  fat and horrible, he said you are not fat you are pleasantly plump. well when I used to wear a size 8 and now a 18 all in 12 years what’s wrong with this picture. MS just slows you down and with that a lot of us get the weight gain, however some of us lose weight so I don’t have an answer to that one. Joyce

I’ve lost around 25lbs since my symptoms started getting heavy in July. Mainly because i’ve lost my appetite, not to mention bowel problems.  But if steroids can help knock me out of this long and drawn out attack(s) i’d take an extra 10lbs back on. Over the last few days i’ve noticed some symptoms returning and my energry level really dropping,  just hope on not going down again. Guess i’ll keep my feet up and fingers crossed. Im sorry youre stuck with Canadian healthcare.  The damage Canadas healthcare has cost you may be irreversible.  Drive to the states and enter an ER and tell them your having an attack and will pay cash for a solumedrol drip, and then do it.  Socialized medicine always sucks.  Only the rich can afford proper care that way. In the meantime, only drink grape juice, tomato juice, orange juice, green tea, and chocolate milk.  Theres no need for water.  That will give you lots of antioxidents which help stem damage. Hi Nick I also live in Halifax area – on eastern side of the harbour. I see Dr Bhan irregularly & have an appt in Feb.  He’s a good doc, so is Dr Murray.  All the neuros associated with the MS clinic are good, I think. The city has other knowledgeable neuros but they are even slower getting access to things like MRIs.  When my son David was dx’d about 4 yrs ago there was no delay in getting him from a GP to the clinic, onto Solymed, an MRI, etc.  I think a lot of it has to do with how the various doctors view it – Dave’s situation then was pretty bad and he has deteriorated very quickly, even tho he has been on Rebif, and he is now in an extended care facility. news:pjeGd.210943$Np3.8901448@ursa-nb00s0.nbnet.nb.ca… Living in Halifax, NS ,  This is extremely frustrating. I still wouldn’t have a dx if I didn’t enter outpatients in Nov, complaining about two numb feet. After a 8 hour wait before I was seen the doctor assumed it was a vitamin deficency. I told him that my GP has been trying since summer to get me a Neurologist. Low and behold 2 days later I had an apt with a neurologist. Just before xmas when I was last speaking with my neuro I told him how my symptoms are slowly getting worse. He told me that i’ll have to wait to get into the MS clinic before any medication can be given. Which should be 6-8 weeks and to hang in there. I have tried contacting the MS clinic, but just get bumped to a voicemail and out of the 3 msg’s i’ve left nothing has been returned. I guess i’ll have to step up the calls to see if I at least can talk to someone!!! and maybe make a visit if I still get nowhere with the calls. I’ve also been into my GP early this week, and told him the situation. He also said i’ll have to stick it out until I get into the ms clinic. He also mentioned that sometimes it takes up to 3-4 months to get in.  He seemed to think the 6-8 weeks my neuro told me was good. I find this very sad, that I have to fight so fierce to get anything done, when 40% of my salary is gone in taxes as well as 15% on everything I buy. I’d much rather have a health system that I have to pay for everything, but that things would actually get done. I was off work  for two weeks,  between Dec 9 and xmas. But now i’m working part time mainly from home. I only have to head in maybe 2 days of the week. Still the office has some major heating problems and Friday when I was in the temp was 29. I had to leave I started having problems walking dizzy spells,  not much sympathy from my co-workers and boss. I don’t want to get into the problems i’ve been having at work. Thanks for the advice. I guess i’ll have to start throwing my weight around. Its extremely hard when some days i’m so fatigued I just feel like lying down all day. Nick "Jennifer" <Jnos…@shaw.ca> wrote in message

Nick, Since nobody’s said it yet, I’ll say it because I think it has to be said. No two cases of MS are the same. So, looking beyond diagnosis and categorization, try a treatment for a sufficient period of time, and if it isn’t working, try something else. For me, steroids worked immediately.  Betaseron took a little longer to kick in (maybe a month) but I could keep using it all he time. Still, it wasn’t a cure, and I progressed.  The bone marrow transplant three years ago put MS in remission.  That step, however, is a last resort. I don’t like to contradict others, but you can now tell that I’m going to do just that.  There is no evidence that fatiguing yourself increases the rate of disease progression and plenty of evidence that being sedentary is bad for your health.  Do as much as you can for as long as you can. Good luck, Craig

Response:

Craig…just to add to your comments…. I agree you should do what you can HOWEVER if you are fatigued, can’t walk well I don’t think it would be helpful to your body to do a 5 km run/walk. Listening to your body will give you the best results. I am able to figure skate (4 times a week), teach school full time, volunteer, coach special olympics without my MS going wonky. However, when I get run down I take a breather because my body will start to protest big time. Again, like you said, each person is different and I am lucky to be in the position I am in, however putting your health at risk to do as much as you can might not be the best. Of course it helps.  That it has side effects is another matter altogether. although there was "one" study claiming it had no benefits. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -> Nick, where abouts in the country are you? You might have better luck by going in, Nick. I don’t know the nurses there now, Pauline retired about a year ago. The doctors there are good. I got in because I was seeing Dr. Bhan privately and asked him if I could see him in the clinic and he said yes. I would suggest you go in, ask them if they can help you and state your problem. "What is the best way to get a referral?" sort of thing. It is the only MS Clinic in N.S. and one busy place and the doctors aren’t there every day either. Good luck. — Joan

Living in Halifax, NS ,  This is extremely frustrating.

Response:

Rob, Solumedrol doesn’t help with symptoms really. It may hault an attack or make it shorter. For me, they do diddly squat except make me gain weight, turn into bitch woman, and become an insomniac. Nick, where abouts in the country are you? If you make a pain of yourself enough people do listen. AND when I had my first attacks (3 at least in a row) I was 23 years old. I had one attack that left me not able to do much. I started improving, went shopping at the mall ’cause I was excited I could walk again, and ended up with another flare up lasting another few months. Got better from that one and had another. YOU NEED TO REST!. Don’t do walking, take a leave from work, etc. Trust me, I basically didn’t do much for at least 6 months (sat at home, used a walker and a cane) and here I am 3 years basically symptom free (ok, occasional little flare but no major muscle weakness) Call the MS clinic and ask to be on their wait list for cancellations. Go to your GP and tell him/her how you are doing. When my GP suspected I had MS she went and bugged pretty much everyone she knew because she was really concerned about me. My neuro got me in for an MRI quickly because he bugged and bugged people. I also got into the clinic faster because I basically made such a nuisance they had to listen. I’ll say it again..call the MS clinic and ask to speak to the relapse nurse. Tell them whats going on and they will often be able to get you on steriods. Be warned about them..they are nasty buggers and have nasty side effects but do work for many people in stopping a flare up. Jen "Rob Duncan" <robdun…@gbronline.com> wrote in message

Response:

Does this seem like RRMS? I’m a 24 yo male that was diagnosed with MS on the 22 of december. About a year ago or so I had a weird numbness in one or two fingertips that lasted a month or so and dissapeared. Also I noticed that when I was bending my neck the numbness in my fingers worsened,  thinking it was due to improper posture and to much time on the computer! I ignored it.  I didn’t really start taking a real notice to my symptoms until July 04,  I was on a ASP.net course and I noticed when I woke up in the morning,  my left foot felt numb and my left leg didn’t seem to work correctly. Although it would move it just kinda felt floppy. Over the next few days I had a altered sensations in my left leg up to my groin area,  I kept up my daily 3km walks with a slight limp and my leg seemed to come around after 2-3 weeks. The altered sensations cleared up although I still had some numbness in my left foot. Early September 04 I had a couple bouts of extreme fatigue, one while I was picking up some groceries. It was like I came down with the flu in 30 seconds,  I had to finish up quick and went home to lay down.  Between Oct – Nov I had some new symptoms, but they seemed to slowly worsen, and kind of blend together making it hard to tell if if they are attacks. The fatigue over this time seemed to stay over me like a black cloud. Stopping me from my walks and requiring me to take naps, every day after getting off from work. The prior numbness I had in my left foot, worsened to the extent of not being able to feel my toes, then the bottom of my foot to the top. Next my right foot started getting numb as well. The muscles in my feet started getting extremly tight and stiff.  Also during this time, I had a couple nights where my jaw got extremely tired for no reason, and I wasn’t eating beef jerkey :P .  I also noticed alot of sharp muscle twitches that would happen all over my body,  in my leg ,    fingers,  arms,  face. After this I noticed both hands becoming shaky especially when holding something heavy, as well as extremly stiff fingers. These symptoms seemed to slowly worsen until Dec 9 when I was first able to see a Neuro, living in Canada and our medical system sucks! was waiting since July to see one. Anyways the morning of the 9th both legs seemed to be weak and my balance was off, it felt like I had one to many to drink.  Neuro told me it was probable MS and I needed a MRI,   so I could either wait to get one through our medical system, which would be free, but i’d have to wait 4-6 months!!,   or I could get a private MRI and get the results in a couple of days,  hard choice!  $1500 and a week later I recieved a call from my neuro on the 22nd of Dec telling me it was definate RRMS,  2 lesions in the brain and 2 on the spine. Meanwhile my legs continued to weaken, and the fatigue was extreme,  I had trouble walking to the bathroom without hanging on the walls.  The weakness in my legs slowly improved over the last month, where I can walk up and down stairs pretty quickly, and my balance has a improved a bit. I still sway when standing still a bit and forget about walking a straight line with one foot in front of the other.  But both feet remain extremely numb,  i’ve stubbed my toes pretty bad a couple times and could barely feel anything. As of today Jan 14 i’m noticing circulation problems ,  my fingernails and toenails are blue ish most of the time. Getting alot of stiffness in my left leg and numbness still remains in both feet. Hands are always tingly and shaky when holding something heavy or still for to long.  I’m currently on a two month waiting list to get into the local MS clinic to get on betainferons and have yet to take anything for these symptoms no steroid treatment etc. I’m just a kind of worried about my symptoms over the last few months, being more of a gradual decline then attacks. I wouldn’t mind getting some opinions from people with experience! Nick

Question:

@enews3.newsguy.com: I’ve noticed that as I lose weight other people start to look different. People who looked okay to me before start to look heavy.  People who were thinner start to look closer to normal. Has anyone else had this experience?

Yes. I too noticed this. Its really wierd though. I seem to put myself in thier shoes again. I find myself wondering whats going on in thier head. I remember what it was like to stand in long lines while I was morbidly overweight. You catch people staring out of the corner of your eyes. Now I am one of those who stare. Now to be mean. Just remembering myself in thier shoes. Now I look back and wonder which of those many people who used to stare at me were overweight at one time and were just silently empathizing with me. —  start  365  goal 200  maintaining 189-194 range  current 190

You probably lost more than I did. My old 38 size pants look funny to me now, but the rest of my clothes experiences and perceptions is much more dull. :) Well, you know I lost more than you did!  You lost a little over 20% of your bodyweight; I lost almost 50% of mine.  You lost 48 lbs; I lost 128. And besides, women generally pay more attention to clothes :-) .

Our body images are also very tied up in how we view ourselves and other people.  I view myself as much smaller than I really am and it always has been a shock to see myself as others see me. Moira, the Faerie Godmother

I don’t think fat people look "odd" in any sense, but there are people whom I previously perceived as normal (i.e., a fair bit thinner than I was) whom I now perceive as overweight. Yes… Maybe, for me, my perception of normal tends to center around my own situation. So, as my situation changed, so did my perception of what is normal. What does strike me more is how, when I’m clothes shopping, clothes that used to look really small to me — the high end of the "normal" women’s size range, as opposed to the plus sizes I wore — now look huge :-) .  And the size 6s that I wear look bigger than those 16s used to. One thing I notice, even with people who are less overweight than I am, is how badly most people’s clothes fit. Half the men in America, and a fair percentage of the women, are running around with their potbellies hanging way over their belts. Men in dress shirts and neckties are bursting our of their collars. That’s the way it is when you’re gaining, ’cause no one wants to face facts and buy bigger clothes, and it sure describes the way I was. If you’re losing, though, trousers are a bit loose, belts have work to do, and you can slip a finger between your neck and your collar. Even with a BMI still in the high 30s, I realize I have the look of someone on the way down, and what I suddenly notice in others is the appearance of being on the way up, with clothes playing catchup. — Paul Turner

I would have assumed it would be a great morale booster to have a reminder of how you used to look and all of the work you successfully put in to changing yourself. You could look at it either way. :) It would be a great morale booster to have a DL with a new photo. Anyhow, I have a fat photo of me in my home office, quite awful looking, that is enough. I lost my old DL (for real, I thought that I lost a wallet which was merely misplaced) and the state reissued me a new copy of a driver’s license, with my old photo from their computer file. I then found my old driver’s license, so now I have two identical ones.

We don’t have photos on our driving licences here.  I think I’m quite glad about that as my weight fluctuates so much the picture would for ever be out of date. janice

It’s the same here.  I imagine most states are the same.  After all, people lose their driver’s license every day. Beverly

I also had an issue getting my fishing license a few weeks ago because they use your DL info.  The poor guy doing our licenses was trying to be very careful in pointing out that he thought my weight was way off and wondering what he should fill in.  Since fishing licenses don’t have a picture (here) it was more important for it to be right.  I should get a new one before I fly again in March, but I didn’t have any problems flying last year. That’s too bad.  My DMV was happy to give me a new one.  It cost $10, but was well worth doing.  I decided it was time after the old one was questioned by a policeman who’d stopped me (expired inspection sticker).   I think I need to get a new gym membership card done too.  The other day I left it at the gym in the evening by mistake, and when I went back the next day I asked at the desk where they have all the "found" ones.  I told the gym my name and he leafed through the cards, asked me the spelling, then asked my first name again.  I finally realized he was looking right at my card and just didn’t think it was me because the picture was so different.  And it was taken part way through my weight loss. What do they do if you lose it?

Response:

I’m really aware of how different I look. I’ve gone from a size 16 to an 8 since last September, and I see myself in the mirror and hardly recognize myself, and am just tortured by the picture on my drivers license. I mean, how come I rationalized that to myself for so long? How could I not see it in my face, never mind the rest of me (I look like hell last summer in family pictures). Is it denial or what that lets us sort of pretend we aren’t the size we are? Now that I’m emerging from self created blimp-hell, I guess you are right, I’m noticing coworkers for example who are overweight – I’m much more aware of it than than I used to be. Not that they look bad, more that they look alarmingly unhealthy….plus I’m doing the mental calculation all the time now when I see other people…I’m thinking to myself….if I had 60 extra lbs on ME, then holy cow, so and so must have 80 or 100!! I was shocked when I realized my weight had crept as high as it had. I dunno, I kept thinking that I was 30 lb overweight or so and that wasn’t so bad, and was totally gobsmacked to realize it was really 60 (somehow, anything over 40 lbs seemed hugely alarming). It was really intimidating – it just seemed so daunting to have so much to loose…and then when it occurs to me that many of my friends and coworkers have that much and more, so no wonder they are "stuck" and can’t tackle it either. It certainly took me a long time to get to that mental space where I knew I HAD to do something – and I’m looking at other people and wondering when they will reach that point. My clerk did. She was approved for gastric bypass surgery which will happen in Feb. She’s REALLY in trouble with her weight – she’s at least 200 lb overweight at 5′ 3" and 51 years of age and its literally do or die time for her. Mary G.

Yes, losing weight can often make one judgemental of others. I try not to do that but sometimes you can’t help but think "How can you eat a triple cheeseburger, super size fries and drink and then complain about being overweight?" And the opposite of what you say is true too: people who are overweight, think you are too skinny, when oftentimes technically you are still slightly overweight. I have had ppl try to put me down simply because I lost weight. Funny that back in the day the opposite was true ;-)  It just shows that how society has changed in the last 10 years about being overweight or obese. One point of time it was considered embarrasing almost, but now its no big deal. Cygnus The Bringer of Balance

Response:

When you were wearing your boxer shorts you had a bigger modesty problem than just your lower butt cheeks showing.  Compression shorts are overkill for running and gym.   A lightweight athletic supporter is much cooler, literally and figuratively.  Why did these things ever go out of favor?

Response:

I usually wear a jockstrap with briefs – more support.  I see other guys doing the same thing. I just started mountain biking and the first time out I just wore briefs under my shorts – my balls were all over the place.  The next day, I wore a jock and briefs and they felt great – no pain at all.

Response:

No need to wear anything to cover your butt. Just wear the jockstrap under your shorts. No briefs or boxers needed. Cooler that way too. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -raj…@gmail.com wrote: > I was once jogging on a treadmill and my boxer rode up – and needless > to say it was very painful. A jock strap is specifically designed to hold your genitals snugly in place; briefs don’t necessarily do that for you. And a jock strap can be cooler under shorts. > I think I’ll buy a jockstrap simply because I could wear it under my > boxers. Jock strap and running shorts is a comfortable combination. > I was also recommended compression shorts, but they seem very expensive > – not worth the cost.

Compression shorts help reduce muscle fatigue. This can be important if you’re playing a sport like hockey, basketball, or football. And for competitive treadmill-jogging, I’d say they’re indispensible.  ;-) — Jockwoof <jockwoof at timberwoof dot com>     jocks: http://www.timberwoof.com/jockwoof/ charter: http://www.timberwoof.com/jockwoof/charter.shtml     FAQ: http://www.timberwoof.com/jockwoof/faq.shtml

Question:

Sorry I haven’t been around for the past week or so and have missed many posts — I had lots and lots and lots of other activities, as I’m sure most of you did too. Well I wasn’t vigilant at all over the holidays —   convenience of food sitting out combined with emotional and celebrational eating all spelled out F-A-T-T-E-R. Well I am eating healthy today and the last few days have been better than previous ones. Have been having a lot of heel pain from walking, so I haven’t been keeping up with that either (though I did today) and I am going to order a new pair of shoes right now in case that helps — I have a feeling it will. Hope everyone is doing well. Mary M 325- I don’t want to know – 150

Welcome back. I started my 7th Body for Life challenge in September at 176 pounds.  I got down to 168 but then in late October I went on vacation, sprained my ankle, and ballooned back up to 176 pounds.  By December I got down to 169 again. Today I weigh 176 pounds. Sigh. I guess it’s lucky that I’m not carrying the 176 + 9 + 7 that I’d have if I hadn’t tried all fall to lose weight.  Yes, I really could weigh 192 if I didn’t keep putting the brakes on the backsliding.  Let’s just look at it that way, shall we? You’re right Dally — I need to look at the positive side. I am not wearing size 24 (26, 28, 30, 32) size pants. My 8s are out of the question right now — some 10s are OK and others are not — the 12s are feeling good. At one time I would have given my eyeteeth to wear size 12 pants, so if those are my "fat pants," then things are not so bad. The key is to get it under control NOW. Isn’t it amazing how much the walking keeps off — the calories burned aren’t that significant, but there is definitely something else happening, because when I was unable to walk every day, that’s when it really started piling on. Now I’ve got my new shoes and am getting the heel pain under control, so things are looking up. We both have a lifelong challenge ahead of us as far as weight goes, it seems. And look how far we’ve both come. Mary

Hope everyone is doing well. Good luck Mary. Not the first, and maybe not even the last time for you… You should do just as well as before… I am also now trying to re-lose 3 lbs that I put on almost overnight around New Year’s.

Isn’t it unnerving how fast it goes on? My weight log is as follows. Dec 27 2004: 172.3, 7 day running average  == 172.400 Mon Dec 30 2004: 172.5, 7 day running average  == 172.357 Thu Dec 31 2004: 172.3, 7 day running average  == 172.314 Fri Jan 03 2005: 176.6, 7 day running average  == 172.843 Mon Jan 04 2005: 175.8, 7 day running average  == 173.186 Tue

I like the idea of keeping an average — and it looks like you have done a good job on holiday weight maintenance. My guess is that the weight gain is from eating too much on New Year’s, and on the next day, eating salty things, eating cheese (always makes me gaine weight),

I have trouble with all dairy that way, and am not sure if it can be traced to my dairy allergy — I have heard before that you cannot lose weight if you continue eating foods that you are allergic to. I do know that all it takes is a few days of half-and-half in my coffee to make a difference in how my stomach and hips look. and carbs in champagne, of which I drank too much. Other than champagne, I did not eat any carby stuff, but, as I realized, champagne is very sweet .

Yum, champagne. :-) It is nice that you take care of this problem before it "balloons" into something more difficult.

And I believe that is the key — everyone has stumbling blocks — it’s how we react to them that makes a difference. I am making a conscious effort to take any panic and drama out of the weight situation and just get back to business. Mary – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – 223/173.2/180

Ohhhh, Chris, I don’t want to go to the nutritionist at this weight. Being an inveterate people-pleaser, I can’t stand to see a look of concern (which I interpret as disappointment) on his face. I am supposed to go on the 10th but there is no way. In fact I think I may call today and ask for two more weeks before my next visit — I can make some headway on this weight gain (and I know some of it is water, of course). I just got a notice that my library reserve is in for Passing for Thin (the book about the woman who lost half her weight) — and that will most likely give me a good shot of inspiration. The good news about all this is that my body is saying "I don’t want to keep eating junk and I want to get back to regular exercise." It is not saying "Let’s keep eating this junk — it tastes great!" — because the truth is that it doesn’t even taste so great. In fact, I should mark yesterday on the calendar because I actually threw away half a sugarfree peppermint patty because it just didn’t taste that good and I didn’t want to finish it. That is truly truly amazing, as piddly as it sounds. It feels good to get back to my usual routine. So much family visiting with food sitting out all the time has definitely taken its toll, but after tomorrow things will be completely back to normal in that respect (my last visiting relative will be leaving my Mom’s house tomorrow). And yesterday my new shoes arrived. I ordered them at 3 p.m. from Zappos.com and UPS delivered them by 1 p.m. the next day — no shipping charges. I was dumbfounded at the speed of delivery, and took it as a sign to get right back on that treadmill. So I can already tell that my not-so-old shoes were definitely worn out, because these felt great. And I celebrated by walking for 6 miles. My heel hurt this morning, but a few ankle circles helped, and my workout at the gym this morning was very good. So I do feel back on track and getting healthier by the day. Mary

My gosh, it’s great to see names I know! I appreciate how many "regulars" answered this post — I don’t recognize a soul in most of the other postings — the Jan. 1 syndrome I suppose. Yes, the new shoes have been great — I don’t know why I can’t remember that they are the most important thing in making sure that my feet feel OK — it just seemed that my other shoes were "still new," though obviously they weren’t. I had bought three pairs in June and was switching off with them, but two of them were trail shoes of the same variety as my running shoes — I didn’t realize that that makes a big difference in how they perform on the treadmill or in regular walking. So my trail shoes are now strictly for trails, and I’ve ordered two pairs of my running shoes (one at a big discount, yay). One already came yesterday and what a difference new shoes make. Like you, I am glad to get back to a routine — time to burn those pounds off! Happy New Year, Beverly! Mary

Well, I understand, but I’m not sure I quite approve :-) .  It sounds a little too close to avoiding stepping onto the scale because you know you’re gaining — and I’ve been there in the past when I put weight back on.  But it does sound like you’re set to get back on track. Your post about the new shoes made me realize it’s probably time for me to buy a new pair of running shoes.  I’ve noticed the feet are a little tired after a couple miles on the treadmill.  I have two pair but they’re both over 4 years old.  I’ve been too busy buying biking related items in the past couple years and have neglected the walking/running equipment<g I’m thinking about doing a program with the park system called "Hike for the Health of It" and they recommend hiking boots.  I have a pair but I’m not sure they’re suited for this type of walking.  I’ll find out this weekend as the hike is in the park near home.  It’s only 2 miles so if they aren’t suitable I won’t suffer much<g It seems like I’ve been here on ASD for years.  I believe I joined the group in 98 or 99.  Reading and posting has been a great aid for me. It hasn’t always kept me from gaining a few pounds but it has kept me from giving up the never ending battle to keep the weight off.  This *is* the year I’m going to get below 140 and stay here!!!! Mary, I’m so glad to hear you’re managing to get back on track.  But as I read this paragraph in your post it sounded SO like all the times I postponed going back to a slimming club/going for a medical checkup/seeing an old friend – insert what you like  here – until I’d got my weight back under control.  For me this definitely never turned out to be a good idea – are you sure it is for you?  Are you sure it isn’t better to face your nutritionist, who has surely been supportive to you throughout, and then you should have a really measurable improvement by the time your next appointment after that comes? Like so much to do with food and weight issues, this is probably something that entirely depends on the psychology of the individual. Anyway, whatever you do please keep posting here – I do like to know how things are going for you.  I’ve followed your progress with great interest and I want to know that you’re OK. I think I snipped a bit where you said something like you would have once given anything to wear size 12 pants, but it doesn’t seem the same now you’ve grown back into them from size 8.  I find this one of the hardest things to come to terms with when I’m regaining.  Sizes that were a cause of great celebration on the way down feel fat and uncomfortable on the way up.  Again, a lot of this is in the mind – if someone could brainwash you into thinking you were on the way down, size 12 would probably feel really small.   It sure is a difficult and complex business. janice (who will now own up to having gained 10 lbs in 14 days over the holiday period)

I can relate to exactly what you’re going through Mary.  Several times when I knew I had gained weight I just didn’t want to know how much damage I had done until I had a couple weeks to start fixing the situation.  Once I felt I had lost a few pounds and jumped back on the scales I was usually surprised to discover it hadn’t been as bad as I had imagined.  I know this is probably not the best way to handle the situation but so far it’s worked for me. I found that I need different shoes for doing the treadmill than the ones I use on the road or trails.  Normally I use a stability/motion control shoe but the treadmill requires more cushioning for me.  I have a friend who is very into shoes (and handbags) and cringes at my limited dress shoe/boot collection – I insist on wearing my Land’s End all-weather mocs everywhere these days, but then she could not figure out why I have so many workout shoes :)  Well, there’s a pair for the treadmill, one for outdoor running, one for outdoor winter running (with screws for traction), one for biking, one for other outdoor activities, one for volleyball (indoor), one for other indoor workouts (like weightlifting), etc…. Response:

heel pain from walking, so I haven’t been keeping up with that either (though I did today) and I am going to order a new pair of shoes right now in case that helps — I have a feeling it will. Hope everyone is doing well.

My mom has a lot of foot pain, even when sitting, so it gets worse when walking. She has benign tumors that are between teh ball of the foot and her toes. They have been removed twice. And she has heel pain. Recently, her podiatrist recommended a shoe company that makes custom shoes. Basically, she got an appointment, and they did molds of her feet and discussed the pain issues. Then they have a special inside of the shoe made. They didn’t have a lot of styles since they actually make the shoe, not an insert. She isn’t painfree, but she does like them and thinks they made an improvement. You might ask your doctor if they know of anything similar in your area. For anybody in the Seattle, WA area, I can give you the info on the place my mom went to. — Meghan & the Zoo Crew   Equine and Pet Photography http://www.zoocrewphoto.com

Your post about the new shoes made me realize it’s probably time for me to buy a new pair of running shoes.  I’ve noticed the feet are a little tired after a couple miles on the treadmill.  I have two pair but they’re both over 4 years old.

This is **way** too old, Beverly!  Get thee to a running shoe store! :-) Chris

Response:

In fact, I should mark yesterday on the calendar because I actually threw away half a sugarfree peppermint patty because it just didn’t taste that good and I didn’t want to finish it. That is truly truly amazing, as piddly as it sounds.

That’s no small feat–throwing away food or not "cleaning my plate" was one of the hardest for me to do–it went against my upbringing and my miserly soul. Not eating the whole thing was a victory, and getting rid of it was a triumph. Good luck to you, Mary. Amy 168/117/110

This is **way** too old, Beverly!  Get thee to a running shoe store! :-) Chris The pair I’ve been wearing probably has the most miles on them.  The other pair has been shoved in the back of the closet and hasn’t been used as much. I’m beginning to think the cushioning in them has broken down. I’ve noticed a problem with all shoes recently that may be contributing to the foot problem.  I feel as if the padding on the bottom of my feet has been disappearing.  I’ve noticed this when walking barefooted through the house.  It’s especially noticeable on the hardwood floors. I’m going to the mall this afternoon and will try to make it to the running store.  I normally get sidelined at the bike shop which is near the running store<g Beverly

You might want to look into buying insoles that you put in the shoes in place of the ones they come with.  I do these, generally a type called "Super Feet".  They increase the cushioning and support in the shoe, and make them far more comfortable for running and walking. Chris

With the exception of Reebok, which for some reason seem specially molded for my feet, I always replace the insoles of my new shoes with nice cushy ones.  The improvement is astonishing.  I just couldn’t believe the thin junky cardboard insoles even in expensive shoes. — Snowshoeing!! Because you don’t seem to listen to what people are telling you? Perhaps you are just messing with us? > She wants alot of thing doen around the house and when I do something > I am slow. She does not always tell me but I can sense it.

Stop worrying about what she thinks so much! "I will not define myself in terms of you" – Bernd You are creating your own misery. Do you enjoy doing these jobs or not? I think you do and you feel proud (note to self) of what you’ve done. Here’s my wild guesses. They are not meant to offend. Because you are so thorough with the quality of your work, she can’t pick on you in that regard. But she has picked up on some insecurity of yours. It probably has something to do with being slow. And when she’s feeling irritable/needs a scapegoat she’ll [probably unconsciously] continually pick on that aspect of you until one day she’s [with your tacit permission of course] created such a huge rift in your "psyche" wrt how you see yourself in her eyes that she can’t stand to set eyes on you anymore. I’m surprised she hasn’t started in on your desire to save money. Perhaps she just hasn’t thought of it yet or she herself has a (note to self: rship with money) thing about money. > I guess part of the problem is I like to do everything myself and hate > to have "outside" people come in. You simply *have* to stop her in her tracks with a well-timed remark. Only you will know when that moment has come and what the right thing to say will be. You have to be truly ready for it when you do it. It’s one moment you can’t fake. Choose your moment and words carefully, time it perfectly. You will literally *feel* the shift between your wife and yourself. Even if it’s only because you believe it happened, you will still feel it. It’s in the belief itself that you change things. Some would call it manipulation, but I hold that almost nothing is wholly good or bad. There’s a right time for everything. And sometimes it’s a good thing to use a bit of "controlling" behaviour if you do it just to the extent that you restore the balance of power. If you are to buy into this, you have to realise that she probably doesn’t like the side of herself that is being exposed when she picks on you. Maybe she even blames you for "making" her pick on you. She has no excuse. She has the choice not to pick on you. So, isn’t that a good reason to take back your power? Do you want her to hate herself, but not know that she hates herself? Because that is possibly what is happening here. The more she picks on you the more she hates herself. To cope with this she needs to blame someone else and you are the logical one. Because you’ll take it. Repeat cycle. Also, what about the kids? Don’t they deserve parents who treat each other well? Standing up for yourself at the "right times" will go a long way towards helping your kids to see its value. If you want her to hate herself, does that make you any better a person than she is? It doesn’t make any difference how you do it, (let’s be reasonable here), if you put a stop to her picking on you, only take back as much power from her that is needed to restore the balance of your relationship. Don’t let the dizzy feelings of power turn you into that which you are here grumbling about.  Instead of just throwing paint on top of the old paint > I sanded the walls, spackled the nail "pops" that have come through > from the house settleing. My sitting room needs a lick of paint. Please visit and stay as long as you like. Pumpkin/butternut is tired after five or six years… ********* Summat else. Isn’t she being a little selfish detracting from the value of something that gives you such pleasure/a sense of fulfilment? This is perhaps where you have to be a little selfish (a little selfishness is good) and consider your own needs! Alternative suggestions: Make jokes about the cobwebs you see being spun as you fix things. Or how you should’ve gone to the beach instead of painting the walls. Say things like, did you see the Robertsons down the road built their house in less time than it took me to screw this light bulb in? Ok. These aren’t good examples, but I don’t know you, so you’ll have to think of your own. Say things that give the impression that you aren’t fazed at being a slowcoach. Care should be taken to avoid feeling "less than" when saying the things though, cos she will sense that. :: Comments like the above also serve as affirmations :: – Michaela

The thing is alot of times she does not say anything. I am constantly asking her what is wrong. That is a good way to think of it. But I have made comments before. I have aked her sometimes "why are you acting mad at me" she just says "I am not mad" and continues to do whatever she was doing. If I tell her her mother comes over too much she just does not say anything back and continues the behaviour. 5 hours per week is not at all too much to exercise (unless you have some medical issue).  If you have an understanding that you’re going to do house projects as well, you just have to balance that in in a way that both of you can accept.  If you only have 10 hours of spare time per week, and after including stretching and showering that leaves only two hours for house work, I can see how that could be a problem.  But most people have more time than that in a week.

She does alot of housework but not every day. Alot of days she is reading a book in the lazy boy. (She is addicted to reading novels). Just her acting like she does not like it makes me feel guilty. I plan on doing some house work tonight while she is at a birthday party for her neice.

I read somewhere about marriage  tips. If your partner is suggesting that they might leave you, tell them, "do let me know when, I’ll help ya pack your bags". Then they wont threaten you about leaving.

Response:

Oh well… I guess I was being optimistic. I’m sorry. :( I don’t really have any other ideas on what her problem might be. I don’t think you’re doing anything wrong based on what you’ve said, and I think that unless you’re approaching her more than once a day, it reflects poorly on her that she’s turning down sex. Married people should really make it a general rule to say yes to their spouse, unless there’s a really valid reason to say no (like they have the flu, a painful yeast infection, etc.). -=Lola – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -Don wrote: > Dolores <weaselpant…@sinmonkey.com> wrote in message <news:uZ-dnX-2btMkcA7cRVn-3w@comcast.com>… >>An hour a day five days a week isn’t that much. Not sure. I used to know the difference between the types but if it helps I weigh about 180 and 6 feet tall. I have always looked slender even though I am not. > > Sun-Thur I use a barbell and do 3 sets of overhead presses. your pectoralis and latissimus? What about your legs? If you really want to build muscle you should concentrate on exercises that involve many muscle groups at once, e.g. Squats, Dead Lifts, Bench Presses, Dips, Bent-Over Rows. Overhead Presses are ok but you’re probably wasting your time with those triceps extensions and biceps curls. I know, I have done the cardinal sin of ignoring legs but there is a reason. I dont have a rack or anything really for legs at home. Also, my legs look ok, it is my upper body I would like to improve at least right now. > > I am wondering about this routine as I dont even get sore anymore and I > > cant visably see any more gaines. as you can increase the weight while maintaining good exercise form everything’s fine. Also keep in mind that nutrition is a very important factor. You must not expect significant gains without a hypercaloric diet (which, of course, opposes your desire for getting leaner — this is the hard part about natural bodybuilding). Yea, I know. I eat light for breakfast and lunch and eat what I want at dinner. (Within reason). I try to eat low carb, high protein. I am not wanting to look like the incredible hulk but would like to gain some in my upper body and lose bodyfat around my stomach. There is not alot there but would like to get down to 10 or 15 % bodyfat. I have not checked in over a year so I might be there now and not know it. Been thinking about getting one of those scales that reads bodyfat.

No, I don’t think you’re doing too much exercise. Try to get the wife to do exercise too.

This depends largely on what your goals are. Are you speaking of bodybuilding training? Do you want to get more mass? Then 5 days / week might be too much for you to recuperate adequately. Read about HIT training (or Heavy Duty as Mike Mentzer called it). I’m not a die-hard HIT advocate but I think there is much truth to it. The more intensive your training is, the less frequent you should train!

An hour exercise every day is good.   Looks like wifey is bit pushing you a lot about work. Tell her, she can read the damn novel when she is retired, ask her to give a hand with your work. She must be 9 months pregnant now, dont ask her now.

So you train shoulders, trapezius, triceps and biceps. What about your pectoralis and latissimus? What about your legs? Absolutely not. I think everyone such exercise for about an hour per day. It doesn’t have to be lifting weights or training tho. Digging the garden is just as good. If it makes you feel good, then keep it up! It’s only an hour a day, most of us sit in front of the TV for longer than that!
