Shoes for Pronation

Categories: nike running

Question:

Will someone with pronation condition care to share what shoes he/she wears and their evaluations?

If you are not too heavy, you might want to try Nike Air Structure I or Etonic Stable Air Pro III. If you are a heavy runner, Nike Air Structure II or Brooks Beast should be a better choice. If your overpronation is really serious, you also should use orthotics to support your arch. I solved my shin splint problems with Nike Air Structure I + Orthotics. Matthias

I’m 155 pds and have pronation problems.  The 2 shoes that seem to work best for me and my program (about 30 miles/week) are the Asiacs 2000 and the Asiacs 123.  The shoe that I was disappointed in was the Nike Pegasus.

Response:

you could also try the Reebok Ventilator

The Aisics GT-2000’s worked well for me, but the arch and "mid shoe" broke down faster than on other shoes I’ve tried.  Before the souls showed wear,  my feet starting to roll further and further inward.  The knee pain followed.       The most durable anti-pronation shoe I’ve owned is the now discontinued Adidas Revenge.  I finally gave-up on them when the heal cushion was shot and six of the eylets ripped through.  The middle of the shoes never gave up.  (Anybody got some 9 1/2’s for sale?)       I weigh 160 lbs, I run 15-50 miles per week year round, and would be limping through life if it wasn’t for my orthotics.                                                       Dick Moulding hegel opera dressage

Just want to hear some suggestions or comments on shoes that work for people with pronation problem. Mine is quite serious. My feet are flat/low arch and wide. Have been running on Ascis gel express, which is a well-cushioned pair. But the semi-curve shape doesn’t correct my severe pronation. Bought a pair of ‘95 Brook Beasts and wore it for the first time to run my very first half marathon in Vancouver BC on 5/7. I finished with 1hr 54min…not bad for my age. The amazing thing was that the shoes made me feel as if I haven’t run the race at all.        Will someone with pronation condition care to share what shoes he/she wears and their evaluations?

I am another *severe* over pronator with wide feet plus have a leg length discrepency and am a heavy runner.  (I know, a biomechanic nightmare).  I am currently running in Saucony Vangs with custom orthotics.  I ran in Nike Air Structure II’s for a while but found, as I increased the milage, that they did not provide adequate support.  I could not get them to work with the orthotics because of the width.  I had a lot of problems with the orthotics at first too, I had 3 serious sprains in the first few months.  I seem to have adjusted and the combination is working for me now. Good Luck Dave Hayes

I’m also a severe over pronater, and have found that Nike Air Structure II’s work very well.  They’re hard to come by now, but they haven’t been discontinued (yet?).  I had my local running store order a pair for me.  Retail is $110 I think.  Haven’t found another shoe that comes anywhere near offering the support.  Hope that helps. Darren
