Running in Atlantic City
Question:
Hi I will be in Atlantic City on business staying at the Sheraton Atlantic City Convention Center Hotel, anyone familiar with the area that could suggest a 6 to 7 mi route from the hotel. Thanks
Response:
I can’t recall its exactl mileage .. but running up and down the boardwalk will give you a good run .. I ran the Atlantic City half marathon a few years back and I seem to recall that it’s a good two to three miles minimum from one end of the boardwalk to the other .. it’s even longer when you keep going beyond where the hotels are. Plus, that way, you’ll avoid the seedier parts of town.

Thanks for the trip down memory lane. I too ran the boardwalk as part of the marathon many years ago. What I recall vividly, and hope to never experience again, is one of flattest pieces of earth that I ever endured. Like many in their ignorance to find a fast marathon I chose AC. At that time I thought the flatter the fastest. What I soon learned was the only elevation gain on the entire course was the step on and off the boardwalk. In essence, you use the same muscle set for the entire race. As the old butter commercial used to say as a shot against margarine , " Don’t mess around with mother nature." Anywho, I did use this for my first Boston qualifier and by 6 seconds. And unless the area one block off the beach made some miraculous changes, you take your life in your hands to wander. I can remember so vividly the moguls touting that the gaming tables were going to do such phenomenal positive changes in the area. Well it did not happen and never will happen. If the likes of the Indy’s want a close to home windmill to tilt at, give the gambling industry a look see. They make Nike look angelical. p.s. Like most beach communities in the cold season – boring!!! These Are My Opinions !
