Odometer watch?

Categories: nike running

Question:

Is there a watch that tells you how far you’ve run? Like maybe a GPS thing?

The Nike GPS system has both distance and Odometer functions.  The standard timer/distance functions tell you how far and fast you ran on a single run. The Odometer function measures the total distance you’ve run with the device (which can be reset to zero at any time).  If you never reset it, you can use it to measure your total running distance for a week/month/year or whatever. Just a correction… the Nike watch does not use GPS — David Nova Scotia, Canada.

I stand corrected (as usual).  I was referring to the *Timex* SDM watch. Thanks for the heads-up. Robert Walter,  CA

: Is there a watch that tells you how far you’ve run? Like maybe a GPS thing? There is the Timex Speed+Distance GPS system.  The GPS receiver goes on your arm and information is diaplayed on a watch.  Look at the archives of this group on google and you can find a lot of discussions that have been posted on the subject.  Nike and one other company has a different technology that is the only major alternative I know of.  Theirs requires a shoe mounted sensor that has to be calaabrated.  I’ve had very good luck witht he Timex unit.  Their GPS receiver is amde by Garmin.  Many people have had good luck with it others have experienced problems.  Pretty much the same thing for the other units some have great results others have problems.   Tom

Yes there are two types.     As you guessed GPS is used by two makes Timex and (I can’t remember the other).  There are also at least two makes (I believe Timex and I know FitSense) that use a accerarometer(sp?) that fits on your shoe and very accurately measures your distance pace by pace.     Both systems have their strong points and their weak points.  Both work well.     I have a FitSense system. — Joseph E. Nike and FitSense do the accelerometers. Timex makes a GPS. There’s some European company that makes a radar running/cyclo computer   which I haven’t seen in the US yet. I have both the FitSense and the Timex.   They have their good and bad points but I tend towards the GPS.
