HRM: Heart Rate Monitors; Suggestions?
Question:
I use an older Cardiosport that has two training zones and cost $130 when I bought it. I like it because I can change the batteries myself (unlike the Polar HRMS). — George Beinhorn "How to Run Your First 50-Miler" http://www.oceansofenergy.com – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Greetings. Radio Shack has a new pedometer that is easy to use. Measures miles, steps, time, calories, and heart rate. Seems to work good. Diane

This is copied straight from the Polar website.. Availability of the new Polar S-series Polar has launched the new Polar S-series for the athletes and active exercisers. The availability of the Polar S-series is the following: The Polar S210 will be available late 2000, the models Polar S410, Polar S510 and Polar S610 during the Q1 / 2001, Polar S710 during the Q2 / 2001 and Polar S810 during the Q3 / 2001. We would like to point out that the schedule of the market launch of the new Polar S-series may vary a little from country to country. Also check out http://www.polar.fi/s-series/ for more information on the features of S-Series.. —

I have three chest straps; an old polar, a new polar, and a nike. The Nike watch will pick up a signal from its own strap (obviously), and the older polar strap, but not the new polar strap. Maybe Polar changed something in their technology so that it wouldnt work with other brand watches. Mike – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text -Would the Nike watch pick up a signal from the Polar?

Is the new strap a digital transmitter?? Most of the older analog transmission straps could be interchanged between brands, but most of the digital ones cannot. Martin.

I have the Nike Triax 100 HRM monitor and I really like it. It has a 100 lap memory so it can memorize 100 laps of time info as well as the HR info at the splits. It has dual time zones, 2 alarms, 5 countdown timers, and a graph that shows your HR over a predefined period. Has a nice light, but it doesnt stay on for very long. There’s more info at the nike web site. The watch is also pretty good looking, and I wear it for things other than running. My previous watch was an old Polar. While the Polar didn’t have many functions and was kind of ugly, I do think that it is better at picking up the signal from the chest strap than the Nike. Gripes: Some of the buttons are hard to push. Also, I wish the chrono would show the lap# while you’re running. It only shows lap# when you push the button to count the next lap/split. Sports Instruments has some nice product. You will need to do a search for the website. Polar is definately the 800 pound gorilla in terms of market share. I like Polar’s product as well. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Greetings. Can rec.runners suggest best/cost effective heart rate moniters? Even pointing to previous threads would be helpful. I’d wait for the new Polar S-series to be out. Those are made for serious use and they got very nice features indeed. I’m craving for the S660 already..
