Eyeglasses and running

Categories: nike running

Question:

Sorry, I do not have a solution but have related comment. I do not wear glasses while running due to the slipping problem especially when it gets hot outside, and when it is cold outside they fog up. You can’t win! I have recently started wearing Nike Airelon (sp?) non-prescription sunglasses and I actually forget that I am wearing them. They are not prescription glasses though. I do not know if they can make the same thing but with a prescription in them, probably not. But I was wondering if anyone out there knows about the possibility. — Laura Erskine. I’m not sure what Croakies are, but I use Chums.  Stretch fabric tube with an adjuster in the middle.  I like them so much I’ve got three pairs in service right now on various sunglasses and yellow’s.  They do get kinda stiff and grungy but a quick rinse and hang to dry over night and they are back in service.  You don’t have to pull them tight to have them hold your glasses in place.  I hate having the nose pads jammed into the bridge of you nose. I bought a pair after doing a trail run, tripping over a root, saving myself from a face plant with some very entertaining moves (so said the two ladies following me, they asked if I could do it again!) but managed to lose my very expensive ($12.00 at Canadian Tire) sunglasses and smoothly stepped on them as I recovered my balance. I have never lost a pair of glasses that I had on my face since.  Now if I could only find the ones not on my face.  That’s the reason I buy $12.00 glasses.  I can lose $12.00 sun glasses as fast as I can $100.00 ones.     Mark — #include <stdiscl.h                     // This is not a signature! – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Thanks for all the good advice folks.  I’ll checl out the sporting goods stores for Croakies. I remeber seeing a product named Croakies in the past.  Have any other retinally-challenged runners tried these or have any other product suggestions?

Yep. I use a Croakies brand strap everyday, and I find it very comfortable. Since the strap slides up and covers the temple pieces completely, I think that friction does more to hold the glasses on than the actual strap that runs behind your head. — Harold

I don’t wear glasses to run, but I do wear them for other sports, and I use Croakies (I think) to hold them on.  They work fine and cause no discomfort.  Croakies or not, any sporting goods store should have several different types of eyeglass straps to choose from. J. Brinkley – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Does anybody know of any good, confortable eyeglass straps that can be used when running?  I usually wear contact lenses for my morning runs, but in the evenings I don’t want to be bothered with putting them in and then taking them out for a 30-50 minute run.  I’m getting tired of constantly readjusting my eyeglasses to keep them from falling off my face. Going without glasses or contacts really isn’t an option as I’m so nearsighted that I’d probably mistake a curb for a cement truck. I’d like to have the Lasik surgery done but with three children on the way (no, I’m not kidding) this just isn’t practical. I hated the croakies because the part that rests on my ear feels too thick. I use Chums; they are fabric instead of rubber and are more comfortable for me.

Get your glasses adjusted. I’ve been running with glasses for almost 30 years now and never had a problem. Get sport glasses if you must that have exaggertated ear pieces that hook around the entire ear. I am currently using wire-rimmed sun glasses with individual nose pads and normal ear pieces and do not have any difficulty. Good luck! I’ve used a number of different straps and definitely find the Croakies are the best.  Comfortable and holds the glasses in place quite nicely without the usual chafing at the back of the ears like some of the other straps I’ve used. Nelson
