new to running- need help
Question:
Joe, Thanks for the helpful info. I did go to runnersworld and I think that maybe I am overpronating slightly- maybe this is the cause of some pain. Currently I have a brand new pair of Nike Airmax for women. I think I may have to look into some shoes that correct overpronation- some advice on shoes would be helpful if anyone has any. I am very enthusiastic about running- for the first time in my life actually- so I have the drive to stick with it. Glad I found this group of helpful people!! Thanks!

Continue to walk run but try to add more run and less walk. When you can run the full time, then start adding time and or distance. Until you can run 30 – 60 minutes you should work only on time and let it stay the same. After you can run the full time, you can start adding and as long as you run the full time, it does not make much difference if you are adding time or distance as they will naturally work out about the same. Don’t add more than 10% time or distance a week, it invites injury. To loose weight, walking works almost as well as running, but it does take a lot more time. 2. As for the bra, maybe some of the ladies can suggest specific brands, but those that I know and need them have not expressed a preference for specific brands. I guess that is interesting since at one time many years ago I sold bras and every customer was very brand model aware. 3. You did not ask, but I have to add, that if you don’t have a good pair of good running shoes that fit your feet and running style, you need to get a pair. Sorry but they are going to cost more than the bra. However they may save your knee. 4. I know I said three and I was right, I can’t offer any information on you knee, someone who has some knowledge should be able to help you or try http://www.runnersworld.com/ . cc e-mail — Dia ’s Muire duit Joe M

Any wise sage runners out there have any tips for a newbie? I am running to loose weight (25 pounds) and get in shape… I’m currently 5" 5′ and 155 pounds. I have been getting a bit of a sore right knee when I run. I am running indoors on a treadmill as that is my only option at the moment. I do 15-20 min of warm up stretches and then 10 minutes fast paced walking before I start my ‘jog’. Then I jog/run on intervals of about 1min jog to 4 min ‘run’… my workout lasts about 35 min (actual time on the treadmill) right now. I’m wondering if it is better to set your goal to a ‘mile’ goal or a ‘time’ goal. What do you suggest? I am wearing loose clothing and Nike Airmax shoes. Should I look into some better shoes? I had a situation some years ago when I used to walk all day at my job where my knee lost the fluid between the kneecap and bone and I was on anti-inflammatory drugs for that for a bit. I’m not sure if it is the same thing acting up again or improper landing on my part. It doesn’t feel as painful as when I lost that fluid bubble- I don’t feel any grinding or anything. It is just sore when I bend. Also- for the ladies… I’m err.. rather large chested and experiencing breast pain during and after my runs. Can anyone recommend a fairly reasonably priced Sports Bra that can lock these suckers down? LOL. I saw some at Nike but they are about $50 and I’m in college so that is a bit tough on me. I am not even sure what to buy. Please email me personally and I can give you more details re: actual cup size etc., so that maybe you can recommend some brand names of sports bras etc… Anyway- any tips and tricks would be really appreciated.
