Changing shoes in 'short' races
Question:
Mornin’ all, I have always wrestled with the question of whether I need to change into bike shoes then running shoes for a short (10m bike, 5krun) race.
I have pondered this my ownself. Im training for my first, a sprint, and don’t feel like purchasing even a cheap pair of bike shoes. While training Im currently splitting the differece with a pair of NIKE ACG shoes. They give my knees better cushioning than any running shoe I have ever worn so I have been running in them for awhile, and the wide waffled soles seem to give me pretty good traction on the bike. td
Response:
Mornin’ all, I have always wrestled with the question of whether I need to change into bike shoes then running shoes for a short (10m bike, 5krun) race. I have clip-in platforms which I use for duathlons, and just can’t really decide whether I lose any power on the pedals with running shoes. I know why in theory bike shoes are better, and they definitely feel better, but I just can’t convince myself that, for a short ride with bike shoes, I am making up more time than I lose when I change into running shoes at T2. Bear in mind too that I am at best a MOP’er. Does anyone have any thoughts on this to convince me one way or the other – to try to get me to stop waffling on this matter, if nothing else, so I can get on with waffling about something else equally esoteric !! Cheers Barry.
