I finally did it – my first marathon

Categories: marathon running

Question:

contains these words: B F’n D. Most anyone could "run" a marathon in that time or better. You might as well hang up your shoes and park yourself in from the the tube if you can’t do any better than that.

I did use the word DO and not RUN. I did run the first 14 though. I bet you wear headphones while you jog, too.

I can’t find any that stay on while I 20 min/mile. And I bet you wear Nike too, Dirk

Reebok Fusion Lites actually. PS: Er, y’all DO know I’m kidding to make a point, right? FWIW, when I manage to finish a ‘thon I’ll be posting a *truly* long, self-indulgent post as soon as I catch my breath!

Of course, but don’t use the word RUN when you may have walked some of it :)

Response:

I thought a bit of self praise wouldn’t go a miss today. I’ve just got in from doing my first marathon and I wish I could think about what I’ve achieved but I’m too tired at the moment. It is my final lifetimes ambition completed  (except winning the lottery).

Congrats, David.  Feels good, doesn’t it?  Don’t worry about the time, just bask in the accomplishment.   Cordially, John

It is my final lifetimes ambition completed  (except winning the lottery). It wasn’t a brilliant time, 4:49:30, but I’m thrilled with it. My 13 mile time was 2:10 so I only slowed down by a little over 1 min a mile for the last 13.

Congratulations David!  You should be thrilled. It’ll mean even more as time progresses.   Thanks for sharing the experience with us.  Good luck with the lottery, so long as  you aren’t buying Michigan Lotto tickets… Paul Gelinas — On a Mission:  3 hr., 17 min., on 10/3/99, at Twin Cities Marathon

Way to go David,                            I did my first in Marathon in April of this year It is some feeling is it not ? Now get into work and tell all about what you did.                                                                Bill

Good for you David, welcome to a feeling that you’ve earned. Isn’t it nice that you can work hard for something, feel good about it and yet deep down inside the details (though part of the memory) become unimportant to the overall accomplishment. My first marathon was last fall and I remember it dearly every time I hear of someone else’s good fortune at experiencing their first marathon. Congratulations and enjoy. Way to go, David. I’d suspect you went out a wee it bit fast and paid the price at the end. Mike Tennent "IronPenguin" Ironman Canada ‘98 16:17:03 Great Floridian ‘99, 15:??:??

Congratulations, David! As someone who is just about to progress from 2 min run/2 min walk for 20 mins, to 3 min run, 2 min walk, I admire your effort and dedication. Marathon running is a mystic art to me – my dad did a few in his late 40s/early 50s, and I didn’t realise how difficult it was until I tried running myself! — Julie
