Track vs. Cross-country
Question:
Hello! I ran cross country for two years in high school and track for one. I really loved the cross country running, but the only thing that kept me in track was my wanting to pole vault. As for the running…I agree with you completely. I think that cross country is more grueling—and thus more rewarding—than track, and the team members stick together because of it. My high school track team was more of a popularity contest, and because I was anything but popular at the time I was gradually excluded. Besides all this, if you love cross country, chances are you love the scenery you are able to run through. Who would want to circle a track mile after mile after mile? Finish the track season the best you can, and try swimming instead next spring. It will help keep your endurance up. I regret not doing this myself. Good luck!!! Kuwanna
Response:
My cross-country team had an incredibly successful season this fall. But now I’m in the track season and it’s just not as fun anymore. Are there others out there with the same situation? Our CC team is really close and track just doesn’t compare.
Response:
This can be a problem. In cross country everyone has a common experience, the race. In track, there are many events. Think of track as spring CC. Bond with the distance runners. I’m the head coach for both sports, and it is much easier to build the family in CC. In track we have a distance coach who deals only with the "distance" runners. They have there own group right now. We will do some things together, but not many. It is a challenge to get the throwers, the sprinters, and the distance runners together.
