Question:

  Take out the insole of the shoe and cut the part off right before the ball of the foot. That is how I solved this problem. At times I have also added a second insole cut off at the ball of the foot. Sounds like symptoms of "Morton’s Neuroma (MN)". MN is generally the result of shoes being too tight in the forefoot, causing metatarsal heads to be squeezed during application of force on the foot (standing a lot, or walking/running). The metatarsals irritate the nerves which pass between them, resulting in mild to excruciating pain (if allowed to progress).

Sounds like our old friend Plantar Fasciitis.Does your foot hurt when you get up in the morning and after you have been sitting for a while,does the pain go away after you have run for 5K or more,if yes there is a good chance.

No, don’t think I’ve made PF’s aquaintance. Certainly not from the symptoms you describe as the pain is only apparant from during a run after the first 2 or 3 miles. Thanks for the info though and if I do come across PF, I’ll tell it you were asking for it! :-) Thanks again, Harry

You might be right,never had Morton’s toe but a friend did and he said "sounds darn close" On a different note been real lousy with computers.How does one put a web site into the body of a message in remarq.Found a site on Morton’s toe to send.

Sounds like symptoms of "Morton’s Neuroma (MN)". MN is generally the result of shoes being too tight in the forefoot, causing metatarsal heads to be squeezed during application of force on the foot (standing a lot, or walking/running). The metatarsals irritate the nerves which pass between them, resulting in mild to excruciating pain (if allowed to progress). In the early stages the cure is get shoes (running AND regular) which do not prevent the feet from spreading laterally when loaded. In latter stages (I’ve been there) metatarsal lifts, or possibly custom orthotics, may be needed. Worst case – surgery. Suggest you do a search on *neuroma* and *Morton’s Neuroma*.
