Seattle area store recommendation

Categories: asics running

Question:

I’ll second Andrew’s suggestion of Super Jock and Jill and share a story: Before marathons, before Ironman, before an "organized ride" on his wife’s bike that hooked him into Multisport, a stressed out, overweight, businessman who had begun a weight training and lifecycle exercise plan, was about to board a plane to Seattle when he picked up a Runner’s World magazine. There was no reason for this impulse, he simply bought it and jumped the flight. In that issue they ranked running stores – Super Jock and Jill was highlighted. The businessman had not ever "run," but on that dark, rainy night, before driving to family and home he mapped a route to Super Jock and Jill. The staff took him under wing and followed him as he ran self-conciously around the block in a business suit with a spongy pair off runing shoes strapped to his feet. I bought my first pair of running shoes that night. It was 6 yars ago. Note: The staff member who helped me is still working for SJ&J. I no longer live in Washington but visit often for business. On these trips you will find me dropping by SJ&J to shop, ask a question, or simply to say "hi" to the staff. Good Training, Good Racing, Qualify, Joe Joseph C. Response:

If you are new to running, and happen to live in the Seattle area, check out Super Jock and Jill in Greenlake.  The staff there are very knowledgeable (many are current and excollegiate athletes) and will analyze your stride, footplant, old shoes, and injury history to help you pick the right shoe. Be sure to wear running-friendly clothing when you shop there, because you’re bound to be taking several trips up the hill next to the store trying out shoes.  The store sells a variety of clothing types, including R.O.N.O., Pearl Izumi, Nike, and Asics.  The triathletes can also buy wetsuits (I am not sure, but they may have both Ironman and Quintana Roo).  They have a variety of racing shoes, too. So, if you’re in need of spending some running/multisport cash, look no further than Greenlake.  I am not affiliated with them in any way (heck, I drive an hour each way just to shop there).  SJ&J is just a great store. -Andrew McNett
