Saucony Grid Advance

Categories: asics running

Question:

Hi Matt, I’ve never gone wrong with the Saucony brand. Have you tried the Grid Shadow 3 by Saucony? I’ve put a couple hundred miles on mine and they are fantastic. I’ve also had good luck with Adidas, but I like the Saucony Grid better. Tim" ——   Nope, I’ve never tried the Shadows, but my second pair of shoes was a 1992 Nike Air Pegasus (I hear the Shadow and Pegasus are/were similar).  Anyway, from running in those, I found that I *really* need a cushioned shoe with a firm medial density.  I loved the Scorpion Stabils, but its been hard to find a replacement: the Grid Stabils were too different, but the 1997 Structure Triax were the closest thing I could find.  The AST’s worked well, but they are near the end of their life (I rotate them with the Jazz Supreme’s, which are about halfway through their life).   What I really want is a cushioned shoe with great medial support.  Not a boxy, heavy, firm "motion control" shoe, but a soft, flexible shoe that, well, does a damn good job of controlling pronation without feeling like an army boot.  I tried the Nike Zoom Ultras, and I think they had a good thing going there, but they were really too much of a lightweight trainer (and the fit sucked).    Anyway, I was hoping to find a shoe that is both slightly softer than the Jazz Supreme but has a firmer medial post.   Thanks in advance… -Matt

Response:

Does anyone have any experience with these shoes?  I’m currently running in the Jass Supreme, but I want to replace them with a shoe that has a little bit more cushioning *and* more medial support. Thanks in advance, -Matt P.S. I tried the Asics 2040’s.  I hated them.

I love the grid advance.  I’m a heavy runner (200lbs).  But they are so comfortable.  I’m on my 3rd pair now.  I tried to go to a pair of Nike Triax a week or so ago.  They are supposed to have more cushioning for larger runners but they ended up tearing my legs up.  I went back and got into the grid advance again.  That night after I got them, I was able to run without pain.  Just my .02 Jesse Houston

Thanks in advance… -Matt
