Racing Flats Question
Question:
nike – they do indeed I have a pair, although I’m hardly elite – although they did set me back about $70 bucks, what I’d consider an elite price for 5 oz of shoe -jeff — Jeffrey Bigham http://www.jeffreybigham.com
Hoffmans replies: First, I want to make the comment that far too many sneakers manufacturers produce sneakers which they call "flats". In my opinion, there are really only 6 real pairs of flats on the market, and New Balance is really
the only company that makes REAL flats…. everyone else pretty much makes what I like to call ultra-light trainers… Asics also makes 2 pairs of real flats… but all the other stuff from other
companies like Nike, Addidas, Puma, Fila, Mizuno are just light trainers. Example: the Fila Racers (like many of the Kenyans wear) are not what I would call flats as they weigh in at about 7.5-8 ounces. Anything that weights more than 8 ounces . usually has pretty decent cushioning quality. . It’s the 5-7 ounce flats that might give you . problems on longer runs. .NB RC-1’s(6.5ou), NB RC-150’s (5.2 ounces), Asics Gel Magic (6.9 ounces) are examples . of great road flats.
Fila elite racer- 6.0 oz. Adidas Concerto 6.2 oz Brooks street demon- 5.2 oz- yes they still make them. Brooks Hyperion racer 6.7 oz. nike? i know they make many light racers for elite runners. Troy http://community.webtv.net/tmacrun/AppalachianTrail
