good running shoe store in Vancouver, BC?

Categories: asics running

Question:

Hi there, I have just started running for the first time (1 week in!) and I have come to the conclusion I need some new runners.  Can someone suggest a good store here in the lower mainland of Vancouver, BC?  I’m looking for somewhere where they will take the time to help do a proper fitting, make some recommendations etc.  I don’t mind paying a little more for the shoes if I get good service and a good fit. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance. Geoff Glave Vancouver, Canada (to email remove the obvious)

From personal experience, I can recommend several places: 1) Rackets & Runners (Oak St. near King Ed.) I recently bought a pair of Asics Gt 2070s there after examining my arches, pronation, trying on many different motion control shoes and doing a gait analysis in each one.  The service was great. 2) The Run Inn (W. 41st near W. Boulevard) I have bought numerous running items here.  I have found there staff to be very friendly and helpful. 3) Ladysport (W. 4th near Alma) This one is just for the ladies.  The head guy there, Phil, is very knowledgeable and helpful when it comes to getting advice on running gear. Hope this helps. — ~Summit Wind HAIL to the greatest advance in mass miscommunication that is The Internet! (to contact me, make a VERY obvious change to my email address)

Personal preference is Forerunners at West 4th. and Collingwood. I’ve been happy with them for many many many years. Phil S — should you wish, reply to symac at shaw dot ca

Well, The Ottawa guy already listed most of The Running Room stores around here, so I saw no reason to add anything further. Moreoever, in my limited experience with only _2_ of The Running Room stores here in Vancouver (the one at City Square Mall on Cambie St. and the one on Alma near W. 4th) I have found that their both their selection and prices leave some room for improvement.  But, most importantly, in the two stores I went to, the only people working in the store were 20-something college kids who seemed to know very little about running, with an interest level to match. The stores that I recommended were stores where I have personally been served very well by people who knewtheir stuff. Mind you, despite the less than impressive experiences, I am aware that it is but a small sample of the local Running Room stores, and, they may have just been isolated incidents.  So I haven’t written them off just yet. Besides, they, like every other running store here, have running clinics, so I reckon they do have competent and knowledgeable runners on their staff.  I guess the trick is to be in their store when they are working.  =) — ~Summit Wind HAIL to the greatest advance in mass miscommunication that is The Internet! Ah, yes, Forerunners on the corner, Ladysport across the street, and a Running Room one block down – What a neighbourhood, eh? Other than Ladysport, which has its own highly-profitable niche, I wonder how the other two stores compete with one another, with there being in such close proximity and all. — ~Summit Wind HAIL to the greatest advance in mass miscommunication that is The Internet! low arch=motion control / medium arch = stability , / hi arch = cushion / theory says foot shape(arch) drives movement of foot, I wear asics cushion, rob my running pardner wears asics- motion cintrol and brian my other running pardner wears asics- stability, hope this helps=)) plodzilla – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Hi there, I have just started running for the first time (1 week in!) and I have come to the conclusion I need some new runners.  Can someone suggest a good store here in the lower mainland of Vancouver, BC?  I’m looking for somewhere where they will take the time to help do a proper fitting, make some recommendations etc.  I don’t mind paying a little more for the shoes if I get good service and a good fit.
