Funny/Sad Story
Question:
Any word?
Response:
On monday, the 9th, I went running at around 5 oclock pm, I came home stretched, showered, and got ready to go talk to my old high school cross country teammates(I graduated this year). I arrived promptly at around 8 pm, and I decided I would go out for a short run with some younger cross runners. I arrived in sandals, so my coach lent me his Asics Gel MC Plus, which I immediately loved. I felt good for the entire length of the run, 500 meters, which was at that point, abruptly stopped by a tree leaning over a trail. As I was running under a 7mi/mile pace, I ducked, just as I had hundreds of times on that trail, with that same tree, but I guess I grew and also didnt duck enough and cauht part of the trunk with the area around my collic. I fell back, and suffered a blow to the head, fortunately on trail dirt and leaves though, and the lights went out for a bit. I awoke, and noticed I hurt a lot, I placed my hand in the area, and noticed that there was a lot of blood, a lot. A friend of mine went to call my mom, and I stood up and walked to where my coach was, 500 meters away, he heard of the incident and met me half way though. I went to the ER, and got some staples in my head to hold the wound together, the dr however said that I would only have to take a day off running, and resume after that. I question the decision even though I am ancy to go out for a run. Anytime I move my head in the wrong direction, pain shoots all over, and I bleed a little. He also said that infections can grow if the area is not clean. I sweat a lot during my running, and I wonder if that could cause an infection, or if the wound could be hurt by running. If anyone has any sort of advice, I would gladly appreciate it. By the way, I am now considering purchasing the Gel MC Plus. I loved the way that shoe felt, but I am a 145 pound, 6′ runner. RRS operators recommend that I avoid that shoe at all costs because stress fractures can arise. I ran in cushioned shoes for a long time, and then I got shin splints, I switched to the GRID Hurricane Sauconys and they went away but the shin area is still quite tender, even though I run on the dirt next to the roads, and trails mostly. I dont remember having a shoe so comfortable during my running before. Could this be my shoe? Thanks for reading, I will be updating my situation later on, and Sat, is the day I get my staples out.
