Asics Kayano for heavy runners?
Question:
The best shoes for a heavy runner I have found recently are a very solid and durable shoe by TurnTec, called the Plateau. I lucked out and found 3 pair of them at Big 5, for $20. each, down from the regular $55. They are sturdy enough for all sorts of athletic use, but they feel light on my feet, when running. I also use them for 2-5 miles of walking a day and my aches and pains have diminished greatly with them. Steve McDonald Eugene, Oregon

I have had 5 pairs of the Kayano’s ( two pair of the 97’s and three pairs of the 98’s)
SNIP The 99’s are rumored to be inferior to the earlier models. I haven’t tried them. You may get a good buy on the older ones. Good luck.
I’m not a heavy runner, but am an orthotic wearer and went through several shoes before trying the 97 model, of which I bought three pair (best shoe I ever tried). I found the 98’s to be stiffer and far less comfortable and would have gone on to other shoes if I hadn’t found the 97 in the "old favorites" at RoadRunner, still for sale, brand new, and at a nice discount to the new models. I am now on my fifth pair of the 97’s, soon moving to the sixth, and these are great shoes. If RoadRunner ever discontinue them, I hope they give me sufficient warning to invest in a lifetime supply!
