very wide feet- very narrow heel

Question:

While I wear Saucony to run in, I kick around on trails and at work in NB.  They go up to 4E… – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – I have very wide feet especially the toe span part and super narrow heels.  It is problematic buying shoes of any kind, but buying running shoes that fit well is a true nightmare. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, A.

There is a method of lacing shoes that will snug them around your heel better. I have a narrow heel and have done this with success. It is very difficult to describe in text so here goes. First find a pair of shoes that have two eyelets at the level of the top lace, the second eyelet will be outside of the topmost eyelet. Lace the shoes up to the top eyelet as you normally would. Then make a loop by going down into the outside eyelet. Do this on each side. You’ll have a loop of lace. Take the end of the lace and go through the loop you’ve made with the lace on the other side of the shoe. Then proceed to tie the shoes as normal. I can’t explain why it works but it does, probably changing the direction the laces pull on the shoe. If you tied your shoes together you’ve done something drastically wrong. Let me know if you need a better description. Andy
