Plantar Fascitis – Asics shoes?

Categories: asics running shoes

Question:

Just a thought… Plantar Fascitis is a fairly common injury among (all) runners.. Asics shoes are fairly common among (all) runners… I guess it’s just coincidence. Asics is one of the most used running shoes brands. If Nike (or any other brand) was the most used brand, I guess the question would be: relationship between Nike shoes and P.F.? A comparison to tennis would be to say that there could be a relationship between tennis elbow and, say, Dunlop rackets. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – I recalled last year this thread came up.  Do you think asics is the problem or is it a now become a rumor?  I admit to heel pain with asics… Ron Four members of my running group have Plantar Fascitis ( pain under the arch of the foot), It seems to be the disease of the month. They all wear Asics shoe. Any connection ,  I wonder? Graham: I always blamed a case of PF I had 2 yrs ago on Asics Gel 125s.  There was no support under the arch at all. Vin W.

I’ve been wearing ASICS of one type or another for the past four years and have had only great experiences with all of them.  I know more people who have had plantar fascitis wearing Nikes, my wife being one of them.  After surgery, she switched to ASICS and has been running fine ever since. – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – Hi , i wear nothing but asics shoes, i’m altermating between 85 and 90 mile weeks on a variety of surfaces, mostly asphalt and concrete, but also dirt trails and a track. I have never yet got Plantar Fasciitus, so maybe it’s not the shoes. It may be some other similar aspect the members of your group’s training. I’d look carefully at mileage, surfaces, intensity ,number of rest days, races and possibly the characteristics of your group’s members such as weight, body structure, body composition, running style and even the fit of the shoes and possible need for corrective devices such as orthotics, before jumping to the conclusion that asics shoes contributed to your injuries, oh P.S. I don’t work for Asics in any way, Shape or form I just wear their shoes…..for now..if and when something better comes along , I’ll switch!!!! good luck

Thanks for the feedback. It appears that it is coincedence only. I guess I need to look at other causes. Hey – I’ve had this problem since the winter.  It started when I started running on a teadmill I bought to maintain some form for the winter.  I figured it must be the treadmill, old age or something.  But guess what – that’s right Asics shoes.  Coincidence??? If you hear any more on this please e-mail or post.  It could be we’re wearing the wrong type for our foot type.
