favourite shoes?

Categories: asics running shoes

Question:

Asics Epirus — Matt Waldner

Response:

Asics GT 2020’s. Ran in them as long as they were available. I see that Road Runner Sports has resurected them. I have the GT 2040’s and I don’t mind them they seem lighter. I also have the Nike Air Span Triax I try to rotate the two, but the GT 2040’s always win. Just fit my foot better. Before you buy.

Response:

what are everyone’s favourite shoes (and why they are)….? ASICS Gel 140. (Inexpensive)

Just to stop the Nike bashing…I thought Nike Pegasus were the most comfortable I ever used and still wish I’d bought more than 2 pairs! Harry

I have -99 Zoom Citizens and they work otherwise just fine for me, but they are very slippery on snow – I have used my old favourites -97(?) Asics DS-trainers on winter.   -I.V.

Response:

Was it the yellow shoe with the flared sole? Pretty crappy shoe. Gave me no grief injury-wise mainly because the shoe disintegrated in the wash mashine first time around like it was put together with paper glue.

That was it (Nike LDV). It was touted as the "ultimate" stability shoe. A case study in a concept (stability) taken to absurdity. I think that was when I started "mistrusting" Nike hype (circa ‘79). Actually, any mfr’s claims. Denny – Pegasus was the ONLY Nike I ever liked

I’ve had a pair of Asics Gel 123 for three years now, and I’m just thinking of replacing them. They are, with the exception of a one-off pair of New Balance that I got from the factory shop, the most comfortable trainers I’ve ever had. Three years will seem like a very long time to the majority of the people posting here, because you all seem to do marathons and 10ks, but I’m a sprinter (400mH), and these are my trainers for occasional half hour runs and fast track sessions. Accordingly, they probably have about a couple hundred miles on them; no more. Oh, and they’re still clean. The reason for this, as much as anything is that if I’m going to the track, I wear something else on the way. I don’t even walk there in them. Someone once told me that driving is just about the worst thing you can do to a pair of running shoes (cf. playing squash in racing flats etc.), and these have certainly lasted. Unfortunately, they no longer seem to be on the market… Which brings me to the question – does anybody know what replaced them? Thanks for wading through all this! Hmmm…  Guess some people didn’t have great luck with these (they may have been made of paper and glue BTW).  Anyway, I loved mine for training- then again, my other pair of shoes at the time were flats w/ spikes as I was a sprinter- guess anything would feel better…. or maybe I just fondly recall anything from my "track star" years…. Pete what are everyone’s favourite shoes (and why they are)….? Years ago (like 1979)  I had a pair of Nike LDV 1000’s…  May have been the first "serious" running shoe Nike made.  Anyway, that was the best pair of running shoes I had (Nike’s hasn’t made a great- eh, even good shoe since) "Dunk" Different strokes…. LDV’s were THE worst shoes I ever had. Destroyed my ankles. Stressed ‘em maybe, rather than destroyed. The sole was about a meter wide (it seemed), and generated some serious torque outside to inside at touchdown. OTOH – others,as you said, were pleased with their LDV’s. Denny

The old Brooks Chariot. It worked very well, so of course they fixed it. rm – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – what are everyone’s favourite shoes (and why they are)….?

Arrrghhh!!! Choke, gasp, plop. My first pair of running shoes were the Nike Road Runners. Thinking that more is better I bought the well padded LDVs. I had injuries after less than a week! The shoe was too inflexible (not to mention heavy). This shoe had a lateral heel flare which I believe caused problems for many runners. These days I find the Adidas Equipment Gazelles pretty good. — Nicholas Before you buy.

Hello,                 My favorites are the Reebok Boston Road DMX and the Nike Air Exeter! Alan – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – what are everyone’s favourite shoes (and why they are)….?

Response:

I haven’t tried very many kinds of running shoes and I don’t have access to a speciality running shoe store.  The shoes I wear are ASICS GEL DS Trainers (1998 model).  They are on the light side, which I like, and they provide enough stability for me.   The shape of the forefoot in the 1999 model is flatter and I don’t like it as well.  I haven’t seen the 2000 model yet.  This is one of the bad things about running shoes:  lack of persistence.  Find a shoe you like and it probably will be unavailable a year later.  Fit is anybody’s guess.  The industry apparently has no standards for shoe sizing.  It’s very annoying. This year there have been two models named Boston – Reebok Boston DMX and Adidas Boston. Both nice lightweigh trainers or so I heard. How’s Reebok Boston holding up? —  Oleg
