Best Shoe for heavy runners.
Question:
i wear asics stabitily shoe called kayano,,,
I’ve been looking through the Asics shoes, and all seem to have the arch that does not meet the ground, or in other words the bottom of the shoe doesn’t make full contact with the ground, and you could easily step on a pencil and it would never touch the bottom of your shoe. Bwtween the time the front section of your foot hits, and the time the heel section hits, there is a great deal of time (relatively) for your foot to twist. Now doesn’t this design promote instability? Is this why almost all Asics advert some degree of stabilizer? "Make no mistake about it! Without humor, freedom would drive you insane." I haven’t followed this thread from the beginning but did notice in my last Road Runner Sports catalogue that they feature a New Balance that is advertised for the heavier runner.

I’m 6′, 230lb. run 12-16 miles/week (11+min/mile). I really like the Asics Cumulus II, Cumulus III. They may not make the II anymore, but the III is available.
I am 6′ 190 lbs and swear by the Asics Nimbus III, I do 20-25 miles a week. I have had Nimbus I, II, & III. All were great shoes. Just wish they were cheaper. I tried the Saucony Grid Web which is another neutral "heavy guy" shoe. They were comfy but not as nearly as durable for me as the Asics.

Response:
Nope and I and many of my running friends run on trails with them.
I only asked because that design seems prevalant, and they advertise a certain degree of control in every shoe. "Make no mistake about it! Without humor, freedom would drive you insane." Bill I am so cool, that sheep count ME before they go to sleep. http://hometown.aol.com/mrrobottow/

Not every one. Just as most brands of running shoes they make cusioned, stability and motion control. — Caveat Lector "the further you go outside, the further you go inside" – B. McKibben Doug Freese

I weigh 245 lbs at 6′2 . Am wondering if there are running shoes fabricated for heavier runners. I run 6-10 miles per week not real fast but about 9.5 minute miles. I know that some years ago Avia had a shoe that was for 250- 300 lbs,but they now longer make it. There has to be many heavier runners out there , any brand or model suggestions??? New Balance used to make some tanks 587 comes to mind depending on your needs Good luck Robert

It would probably also help to throw out the insole that comes with the shoe and purchase one of the better ones. I got a set of ‘SOF Soles’ out of the road runner catalogue (they also have a website) and they were a big improvement.

Saucony is now making some models for 3 different body types. I think they describe the ones for heavy runners as "durable". I haven’t seen them in stores yet, but I have always liked the Sauconys. They seem to hold up longer than Asics (ymwv)

Mr Ed, any blacksmith would be more than happy to fix you up with some custom shoes. The next question would be wether you run with a saddle on, or bareback.

It’s been my experience that Asics, NB, and Saucony (I’m sure there are others that I haven’t tried) amke shoes that work for heavy runners (like me). I just get shoes that fit and are the right type of control. The down side is they tend to wear out more quickly for me than for non-heavy folks. My suggestion is to not sweat the "heavy" label for shoes. Good luck, Layne The rec.running report archives may be found at http://kinder.cis.unf.edu/rec.running

This has been my experience too! I almost added this to my post about Nike, "if you weigh over 175lbs, forget about Nike." "Make no mistake about it! Without humor, freedom would drive you insane." Bill I am so cool, that sheep count ME before they go to sleep. http://hometown.aol.com/mrrobottow/
